We've all been complaining about the long, cold, snowy winter. Yesterday we had some sun and above freezing temperatures. Today we will get sunshine and above freezing temperatures. And while the snow is far from gone, we have had a bit of a melt down. How much snow is there? I had to chop the compacted snow away for a path to it. I wasn't even sure if the garbage man would take our garbage! Tomorrows forecast calls for heavy rain and mild tempertures, followed by another deep freeze on the weekend. I do hope there is still some snow left to insulate the gardens. How deep is the snow where you are?
Netty we've had very little snow this winter. A couple of coverings, no more than 1/2" deep and that's about it. By the looks of your garden I think you've had all of our usual winter weather along with your own. I hope it stays around until after the next freeze though as it does do a great job of protecting all your beautiful plants.
Hi Netty,..that's quite a big snowfall,..looks nice but very hard to get out and about,..one wonders how all the plants are surviving under that big blanket of snow,..lets hope it melts soon and you see signs of spring.
You have more snow on the ground in those photos than my area has seen in the last 100 years combined. Summer depression is beginning for me so I will just keep your photos where I can see them and make it through the next 6 months.
I had a yard full of robins this morning, 70* temps and a whole lot of energy. Sure hope my bubble does not burst. I've spent the last two days outside in a t-shirt in the gardens. I know we are not through with the bad weather yet, but I got to enjoy the good stuff for a couple of days. It felt so good.
Thanks for the comments. Today weatherman calls for 8°C and heavy rain. I'm not sure how much snow will be left after that. We have been getting a January thaw for as long as I can remember but we did not this year. I hope there isn't too much flooding tomorrow. Toni - Summer depression in February? I love comparison photos no matter what the topic. Wow!! That's the only word that keeps coming to mind…..WOW!! I finally located the bird path in the far-away photo….I kept looking for something actually sticking up, rather than something level with the snow! It's really hard to believe that all those lovely plants and bushes are going to survive. Have you had that much snow before?
We haven't had this much snow for about 8 or 9 years now. But this winter is a more typical one, and as much as I am tired of snow, this is a 'proper' winter for us. Believe it or not Ronni, all this snow is a blessing for the garden with the cold temperatures we have had. All my plants are well insulated under there
