Well, I for one, am so glad to see your forsythia blooming as, hopefully, it won't be too long until mine does too.
Barb-- Forsythia is such a wild spreader, I would ask anyone but you what you were going to do with all those forsythia babies. But I have seen pix of your vast acreage on Stew, you could have swaths of blooming forsythia & it will look lovely.
I have taken 4 foot cuttings in December and forced them. That was cool..... This year I plan on working allot on that hidden garden ares. It's about 1/4 acre. I want to have greenery all around the edges so you can't see into it. I have already added some other things but it's expensive and slow. I just thought this would be much faster. I have started lots of other things to put in between them. Everything I started is doing great over this tough Winter.
Congrats Ware! Forsythia is one of the hallmark spring signs, isn't it. They bloom pretty early over here as well. Sometimes I think they just don't have good sense. I can appreciate your wish to have a bit of privacy around your acreage. It is something that is important to me on the lottie complex, and I use a variety of shrub and bush types. Anyway--it was great to see your blooming starter bush. --Way to go, meid!
Barb was just wondering....What is I bring all those pots of Forsythia in the house where it's warm... wow, would I make Spring happen earlier???
Well, silly me, I only have a few lil twigs planted in the gardens but the fella down the street has gigantic ones. I just may go ask him if I can have some very long ones. I do have other plants on my property that I may..... You all do know that you can also force beauty berry bush, lilac, crab apple, dogwood, flowering quince, magnolia, and of course, pussy willow. That's what we did when we were children. Now you all know what I will be up to today, while it is so cooold out there.
