A very dear friend of mine, who lives in France, is very skilled with knitting, crocheting etc. I've admired her work for some years now. Shortly before Christmas, I jokingly asked if she ever takes jobs on consignment, and she responded that for me, yes of course she would!!

I love snuggle blankets. They're all round my house, on my bed, sitting by and on the couch for me, the dogs, the family to snuggle into. So that's what I requested. I'm tall, and unless I use an actual blanket, I can't ever find a snuggle blanket that is long enough to cover all of me when I stretch out on the recliner part of my couch. I've been using an old chenille bedspread that I cut the sides off, that's long enough to wrap around and under my feet. But then my dear friend Eleanor made this gorgeous 100% cotton snuggle blanket, in the colors that perfectly compliment my living room, and now I am in heaven!

Oh my gosh it's really here!

I am so tickled with how it looks, how it feels, the exactly perfect size, the workmanship, and the love and care that exudes from its every stitch! Even not taking into account all the above ways in which it's perfect, it would STILL be incredibly special and absolutely perfect to me because it's hand made, with love, from my sweet friend. I am beyond thrilled!! :smt055

Ronni, What a nice present. You will love that for years especially when there is a chill, but not enough for the furnace to be running.

How lovely, especially the way the colors rather "fade" into each other. You are right--skill, care, and love went into that snuggle blanket.

Thanks guys. It's such a special gift!

The things I own that I treasure the most are the things that have been made for me. I own a few things that have some physical value, a couple of antique pieces, one piece of art, a couple of pieces of jewelry, things like that, but the things that are absolutely priceless, to me, are those things that have been lovingly crafted for me, by someone I care about. They may not be perfect in form, but they, like this blanket, are perfect to ME because of their history, the love that went into making them, the bond they represent.

My entry way is graced with 4 very such things…4 pieces that each have a story, that are from dear friends (one no longer with us) handmade for me personally, and they are the first things you see when you walk in. I don't think any of them would command a great deal of money if they were sold, nor are they entirely perfect in form, and yet they couldn't BE more perfectly suited to me, and to greet you when you step inside my home.

Top is a cross stitch piece made for me by my Denise, ex-sister in law 30+ years ago. We're still very close, like sisters, regardless of the divorce.

Bottom made for me by Pat, as a housewarming gift when I moved to this house in 2012. Our 35 year long friendship has withstood moves across and around the country, divorces, weddings, lost children, shared pets, and even though we're currently separated geographically by thousands of miles, we still have coffee "together" every morning when we visit on Facebook. ;)

Top also made by Pat, this one 20 years past, after a particularly trying situation in which our then husbands decided we shouldn't be friends anymore! (yeah, they were both pieces of work!)

Bottom by Heather, who befriended me when we moved to Huntsville Alabama a long time ago when my kids were little, and I was completely alone in a new place and knew no-one. We became incredibly close. Our families shared everything together. She made the cross stitch and quilting. Her husband made the frame. She passed away not long ago. :(

And then there are the things my kids made. They hold places of honor in my home. No trendy accessories or decorations for me! ;)

Clay artwork made my Devin, Cameron and Paige, when they were 7, 5 and 1. Now 31, 29 and 25 respectively.

Grayson's handprints when he was 6. (He'll be 34 at the end of this month.)

Various works of art made by either Devin or Cameron.

Clay….things? A mug, a vase and, uh, a dish…I think. ;) Made by Grayson and Corey, my oldest who just turned 40. When Corey and his family came to visit last year, his kids got SUCH a kick out of seeing the misshapen and strange looking cup he made. :)

These things, and a few more scattered around my house, are my priceless treasures. :smt049

I'd love to see some of yours.

The blanket looks as if it would be really warm and snuggley.

Nice collection of meaningful handicraft work too.
