The news this morning has abounded with reports of treacherous weather conditions, ice and snow on the roads, school and business closures and all around nastiness as a result of Mother Nature. I was glued to the TV from 6.30 a.m. onwards keeping track of the conditions, and watching some really bad issues unfold. A couple of our freeways were closed in both directions due to jackknifed semis, a truck that caught on fire, and countless wrecks. Other major roads and freeways reported exceedingly hazardous conditions, with image after image of cars skating sideways down roads, others pulled off to the side of the road, people slipping and sliding on the ice as they exited abandoned vehicles. It's bad, folks. Early this morning, I mulled whether or not I should head in to work, becoming more and more convinced that it was a bad idea. My first client texted me and said I'd be unable to get into her neighborhood if I came, and to please not put myself risk and to stay put! My second client texted shortly thereafter and said the road conditions where she lived were untenable and that she wasn't going anywhere, and suggest I don't either. That was all the encouragement I needed to stay at home, snuggled under my new snuggle blanket, and watch the disaster unfold from the safety and warmth of my couch.
Wow, We didn't get anything. It went south of us. Please keep us posted on how you are doing and please listen to them. Stay in the house....... We can't come and help you if you get in trouble out there.........
I've stayed in, warm and safe. I'm shocked we didn't lose power! Several friends in my same area did, a couple not even two miles from us! Power outages everywhere, still a bunch of road closures through the freeways are moving OK now thanks to getting all the wrecks off out of the way and a LOT of people staying home. Other friends, who work for the government, have been sent home after all the State offices were officially closed for the day. As hazardous as these nasty weather conditions have been, still it made for some pretty photo ops. And sorry birdies. I'm not yet brave enough to trek across the icy deck to refill your feeder.
Ronni I'm so glad you stayed at home all warm and safe. Clients' appointments can be re-scheduled. Nothing can replace you so sit tight and wait until the weather and road conditions improve. Your photographs are lovely - I especially like the first one.
Oh my! Yesterday evening our national news station said you were in for another bad weather spell, but I never thought it would be that bad. I'm glad you stayed in.
A couple friends sent me photos of their conditions. Ouch! A salt truck, valiantly working to salt the very nasty roads, ended up in a ditch. The roads were too bad for even them! Been through storms like that. And then turned colder. People stayed with us. Dh good about starting generator once a month. To make sure it starts.
Ronni, I am feeling bad for all of you and so glad it didn't come this far north...for a change we missed it or should I say it missed us. Stay safe!
For two days in a row we've had to out the front door since the patio is now an ice-skating rink. If I'd known then what I know now, I wouldn't have gotten those pointy toed, raked heel cowboy boots. I would have bought ice skates! There is a Texas expression "slicker than a cow on ice." Now we've seen where that saying came from.
Love seeing ice storms as long as we get to stay home and the electricity doesn't go out for very long. These were taken during our last ice storm. Jewell, those are some very amazing pictures! I was in and out of the living room last night. Lee had the TV on and as I was heading through to the kitchen, I heard something that I thought I'd heard wrong and had Lee rewind it. OMG! Has anyone ever heard of "freezing fog?" *I* sure hadn't, and had to listen to the broadcast twice just to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding. There was a blanket of fog over us, and as the temps dropped again to below freezing, it was going to create this "frozen fog" condition and be potentially hazardous. They closed the schools…AGAIN! And countless businesses and private schools and daycares are opening a couple of hours late. It's foggy this morning, but as far as I can tell, it's just fog. The snow and ice from Monday burned off for the most part yesterday. We had patches of sun, enough to melt and dry the roads. And the fog, even though it's supposedly frozen, doesn't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary. Frozen fog? Who knew??
