My dear Ciara (9 yrs. young) had to have a small tumor and tooth removed today. They gave her a cone of shame to wear to keep her from scratching the stitches. It was so big that it kept hanging up on everything and she would stand there crying. Poor baby. Poor baby ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) I took the scissors and trim the cone down almost three inches. I think they thought her nose was longer than it really is. Or maybe our house is just to small for the cone. She finally made it to the couch where she layed for half and hour whining her sad song before falling asleep. Oops, no she is still whining the sad song. :'(
Ciara has always been a talker. Unlike most animals that suffer quietly we spent a night of listening to whining and moaning. Ciara let us know how she felt about the world. She really hates the cone and she will have to wear it 10 days. Sleep deprived I finally yelled at her and she is now quiet. What a character. I just hope I didn't over trim the cone and I get some sleep tonight.
Poor girl. Jewell, if you want to spend a few bucks, you can buy a more user friendly collar…I think they're called comfort cones or cloud collars or something like that. My daughter has a great dane who needed to wear a collar for a few days. They almost didn't' have one large enough! (he's 160 pounds!) But it was insane around their house when he was wearing it. He already beats their stuff up just with his size…adding a cone to that and NOTHING was safe! Hope Ciara heals quickly.

Jewell, At first I assumed she was whining in pain & of course, I thought Poor Baby! Hearing what you have said about her personality though, it sounds like she is just very talkative and opinionated. I hope that is the case.
Awwww she does look so sad. Looks like she needs a hug. She will be back to her old self again soon, I'm sure.

Poor baby! We had to put a collar on our big St. Bernard/Golden, and he didn't appreciate it one bit. He kept running into doorways, and dinner was difficult, too! Until the soft collar arrives, you can improvise with toweling strips. We did when we noticed the collar was wearing off his fur at the back of his neck. Just wrap the collar with toweling strips and staple them into place. It's temporary, but it does help. In the meantime, tell Ciara she is getting a lot of sympathy from Stewies.
Really hope Ciara is better soon. My daughter uses a threat of the Cone of Shame on her two boys, they just laugh and call her bluff...I loved that movie.
Apart from anything else those collars were never designed as a fashion statement were they? Neither wonder Ciara was so vocal about hers. Her mouth will heal quickly and she'll soon be collar free. Just waiting to hear of her reaction when it comes off!! Until then give her lots of love from all of us here and tell her we sympathise with her.
