The Knife Drawer- So you don't get the point :-)

Knife drawers often are a conglomeration of many years accumulation.
They become crowded and disorganized. A lament my wife mentioned one day.
A trip to the knife store revealed many ideas but not one that fit the hoard living in our drawer.

So I made our own:

21 individual, removable, sections with the sides routed for each knife. Some knives have custom slots cut for deep heels and wide bolsters. The sharpener has its own slot.

The knives are happy, the wife is happy, and me?

Very creative and nice Jerry Sullivan. That will keep them sharp longer also. It's much safer than rummaging around a pile of blades.

As I said on the patch I sent, Jerry, I am impressed! Looks very cool & looks like it will protect the blades.

Toni has a good question though, what do you all do with all those knives?

The breakdown:

35 knives and 1 sharpener

8 steak knives bought as a set that not only get used as a steak knives but also as daily goto sharp utility knifes

5 knives and a sharpener bought as a christmas gift these were some of our first knives 30 odd years ago

6 knives(the all silver ones(bought on a stupid whim(we hardly use them)

1 cheese knife

4 free knives for listening to a sales pitch at the supermarket

2 knives that were the only knives we kept when we cleaned out my folks house

1 bread knife

5 knives I bought when I first set up an apartment

1 ceramic knife bought at a home cooking presentation

1 Ginsu knife(Christmas gift) probably gets used the most (Joyces knife)

1 knife I bought at a Faneuil Hall(Boston) knife store, second most used knife (my knife)

Nice job Jerry! Me and knives don't get along. Besides the butter knives and steak knives... One big one for chopping is all I can manage.

 

I have multiple knives also and a messy drawer :-o Funny how you each have your favorite knife, I do too Hubby on the other hand uses whatever he grabs first, makes me crazy

 

Strats--I have a friend who also gets frustrated with how her husband (in her mind) misuses her favorite knife. She has taken to hiding it in her underwear drawer!! I walk with this woman every Sunday morning. It is interesting what two women can wind up talking about. If I were a guy I would have a major head shake over it.

 

That's a lot of knives!
I don't have a knife drawer... but mom does have a drawer in the kitchen table, supposed to be only for cutlery and it actually has pretty much everything in there.

 

Jerry, your drawer is wonderful. I am ont he way to Ronni's. You may stop here first, since it is on the way and you wouldn't have to back track on the way to Cheryls' on the way ti Scotland etc.... I gave my "knife" drawer a bump with my hip a few weeks ago to shut it since my hands were full and my boning knife from Warthers got caught (because I was too lazy to keep it in a blade protector) and I bent it and broke the blade. I went to by another one and they have discontinued making that exact style. I was so sad since I drove an hour to go get it. I love my Warthers knives.

This is the coolest museum ever. This man hand carved to scale, with a 4th grade education, all the pieces in this museum. If any of you ever get to Ohio, make this a place to see.

are those silver knives Rada knives? I have a few Radas and they are decent knives, too.

 

I like that idea. And having cleaning business. I have seen draws would end up in ER cleaning. Or worse have sharp knife in sink with water in it.
