Hopeepooh sending you a big welcome from a cold and frozen Stewbie in Wisconsin. Wow, that is some rain water collector. The ones I've seen are with the barrels that attach to the bottom of your rain gutter down spout.
Looking forward to seeing some one your other projects. We LOVE seeing pictures.

I have the standard barrel type of collector also but they empty as fast as they fill .. one good watering of the garden things and the barrel is empty .. LOL
Got to thinking .. to truly have water for any emergency or for when (GOD forbid)the SHTF, well you have to have allot more than barrels the size of trash cans. We have a pond on the property but that would be a LAST resort!
As for drinking, we'll still boil the collected water just to be sure of anything that might have made its way into the tank.
After Katrina, we were one of very few around who had potable water. :D
