I was looking through a gardening magazine during the winter and found an article on setting up a gardening desk. Someplace to keep your seeds, magazines, books, notes, etc. where you could sit and make plans without having to take over the kitchen table then pick things up when it was meal time...you know the drill. I was given an old sewing machine complete with cabinet a couple of years ago. The machine would probably work but had been sitting in a storage building for years, Randy tinkered with it but the bobbin winder doesn't work and I am not sure about the stitching so it really hadn't been used. But I did paint the cabinet a nice purple color (never fear it wasn't an antique or valuable, just old). Randy took the top section off, with the side that opens up for more room when sewing and we found as really pretty finished table top made of white pine that was the perfect size. He attached it to the base and VOILA!! I now have a gardening desk. I rounded up all the stuff that was taking up space in the livingroom and my craft room, the cabinet has drawers for doodads and the bench can hold extra stuff too. I need to recover that cushion, it's pretty icky looking, will have to find some gardening themed fabric. Right now it's surrounded by garden junque that hasn't been put out in the yard but soon it will stand there uncrowded....I hope. New gardening desk ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden )
I was allowed to claim our "living room". I don't know why it was called that since we weren't allowed to do much living in there as kids. But anyhow, the old dining room table is in there and that's where I have my computer set up. And since it's plenty big, it also serves as my gardening desk. I added some storage cabinets in there to hold things like all the old photo albums. Well... half is for gardening stuff. And then there's that table in the corner. Well... you get the idea. Nice save on that old sewing machine Toni... I bet that area is going to get lots of use.
Wow a space to call your own. Love it Toni. I take over the sunroom until the gardens are planted. I just cleaned it last week and restored it back to a sunroom.
Kitchen table, the work table in my craft room and the top of the antique trunk beside my chair in the livingroom are usually piled high with gardening stuff....and I usually can't find anything Now I have everything handy in one place. Of course I am finished planning for this season but beginning this fall and going through Spring it will be well used.
