Well, this thread may not be very interesting...my bride says, "Totally boring"; however, I thought it might be nice to show what's going on at the home front. Yeah, oké---it is not super newsworthy, but still, a view of things here rather than the garden for a change.

I shall begin with the front balcony.

What you are seeing here is a balcony presentation in the "shift mode". What I mean by that is that I now have colourful viooltjes (can never recall the english word for them) in the upper balcony boxes and down on the floor you can see marigolds that I planted out there a coupla days ago.

So...what happens is that when the upper display of viooltjes are beginning to be bloomed-out, I will cut off their foliage and set them down on the floor to (re-develop), and shift the in-the-interim-developed marigolds up to the place of honour.

I will let the re-developed viooltjes stay on the balcony, or take them to the lottie and find a place for them there.

Moving right along to the other side of the house. A while ago, the neighbour man downstairs found an old metal cart with wheels. He then built a very nice wooden box to be attached onto the cart. It is lined and yet had a drainage system built-in. Very clever. Take a look--doesn't it look cosy?

The cart was meant to hold soil with herbs planted in it. The location is just outside the their kitchen door and the cart had wheels. He can roll it closer to the door, as well as roll it into the storage shed in the winter to keep his delicate Mediterranean plants safe from frosting.

He went out and bought all manner of herbs. Tch! I could have given him many from my own collection...but he did not know that. Well, what he did ask for was daslook (Allium ursinum). I brought him some from the lottie and he planted some in the cart and some in the front garden.

You can see three limp-looking ones in the short bloom box in front. They had weakish stems because they were growing in-between the Astrantia's. There is another very strong specimen in the back. It stands tall with it's white, starshaped cluster-flowers.

It really is an accomplishment to have the herb garden there so handy. When he and I are standing around downstairs chatting about this and that, we both pick and nibble in-between sentences from that herb garden cart.

It's nice to see what's going on around your home. I love your balcony set up. It's so pretty and bright!
I'd be so tempted to steal your neighbors herb cart... practical and pretty at the same time!

Yep, Viola. They look beautiful and the marigolds are coming right along.

Your neighbor has a great looking planter. Mmmm, I have an old kitchen cart that isn't doing anything useful...and we have some boards sitting out back...I think I have a weekend project for hubby. ;)

I love those violas - very colourful and they certainly draw the eyes to them. Your marigolds look as though they'll have numerous buds showing on them later and will add another lovely splash of colour when put in place of the violas.
Your neighbour did a wonderful job on that cart - just the thing for growing herbs as well as being a nice addition to the side of the house.

Ah yes, CAROLYN--I think that's it. Viola's. Yes, the man is very handy and had a lot of tools. I'll pass your compliment along.

You are right, CHERYL--that cart is so very practical. I have complimented him several times on it and he just glows with pride.I am chuffed that you find my balcony nice-looking.

Thanks TONI--I hope that your project came to fruition. If it did, please post it. Such a thing really makes sense.

Hey GREENFINGERS--So, you've got one as well. If you make a planter out of it, let me know and please do post piccies. They really are handy.

Thanks for the nice compliments, EILEEN--I have great hopes for the balcony flowers. The downstairs neighbour really is proud of that cart and I see him pottering about with it from time to time.

What a clever way to keep the balcony looking beautiful and interesting for a long time -"Shift Mode".

The cart of herbs is interesting.

Thanks so much, CAYUGA--It is what I do every year on the balcony...I just use different colours and plants.

KK--Thanks for your comments on this thread. That cart really IS a good idea and works so well for the neighbours.
I do like having some colour right outside the large living room window.

Oh Wow. Those are some beautiful looking plants. I love violas. They are both wonderful to look at and EAT!
While you and your honey are standing around nibbling on the herbs. Have a few Violas as well. Yummy.
You can come over and plant my deck space. :stew1:

Thanks for your comments, 2T--I shall have to try eating viola blooms. If I come there to work, we shall have to work out some sort of barter system.
.....are you a good cook? :D hahahahaha.
