I have read online that you can use fish water as a fertilizer for plants. Does anyone use it? And if so is it any good?
Whenever I clean my aquarium (maybe once a year) I use it to water my plants. I'm not sure how much "fertilizer" the fish produce, but there is some. And it's free water, right?
Cherylad - My other half cleans our fish tank twice a week. So instead of throwing the water away I might as well use it on my vegetables. I am not sure how much fertilizer it produces either. I guess I am going to have research more of this and find out.
You are right. Used fish water is wondercful for plants. Not just the clean out but just a water change. There are dissolved nutrient in it.
CariAnn we used to use our dirty fish tank water on the garden and the plants seemed to thrive on it. We also dug any dead fish into the soil and let them feed the plants too. Here's an website about used fish water that you might like to read: http://www.examiner.com/article/reuse-f ... fertilizer
What size tank do you have and how many fish? Just curious as to how much fertilizer will be in the water if he's changing it twice a week.
