We are so happy! We have had bluebird boxes up for six years. Although the blues visited, they never nested here. Each year we'd check the boxes, add another in a different spot, and be disappointed.
However, this year is the nesting year! I saw a bluebird on the fence with something in its beak. It flew to a nearby nest box, stuck its head in, and reappeared without the "something". I think it's feeding young, since we have seen bits of grass and nest materials around that box.
Oh, boy, are we going to be insufferable if there are baby blues at Red Gate Farm!

I sit in the evening and watch them feed the kids. Both mom & dad feed. As soon as one leaves the other shows up with food. They must be exhausted by bed time.

Very nice! That's very lucky, I see them all the time at my bird feeder, but I've never seen them in someone's nesting box. I look forward to seeing the little ones :)

Very cool. We set a box after my oldest field trip where they talk about bluebirds. Sadly no takers.

Will do, Eileen! We are still keeping away from the nest box, but we still see bluebirds coming and going, and sitting on the nearby fence. We hope they will raise more than one brood here this summer.
