Our oldest son, Tom and his family came from California for a visit this past weekend. He has a wine conference in Austin this week so combined it with a visit to us.

We had a great time visiting. We went for a ride so they could see this part of the country. Fintin's favorite things of all were the oil rigs. He liked all of them. We went to the presidential library in College Station and they had a large section on drilling oil and models of the oil rigs and lots of pictures. This one they put up on our road this morning just after they left. Fintin didn't get to see it.

I didn't want to see them go but he has meetings all week and it is a part of his work so he couldn't stay. His family are going to find fun things to do while he works. We'll miss them though.

I am so glad you had a visit from your son and his family. Do you get to see them often? Is he in the wine business?

Being close to family is so important.

Even although their visit was short it must have been wonderful to see them. What a lovely family photograph and I'm sure it's one you'll treasure.

I'm so glad you got to spend this time with them! My oldest lives in CA with 4 of my grandchildren, so I know what it's like to have family so far away, and how much fun it is when you see them!

He does research at the University of California at Davis. He supervises the lab there where he got his PhD. He worked in the wine industry for years before going to US-Davis.
We hadn't seen them since we moved to Texas. We've seen two of our three boys within a month now. Good time was had by all.

Tell them about the Bats that come out at night from under the South Congress Avenue bridge. http://www.batsinaustin.com/ they will need to take hats, there are thousands of bats that fly over, it takes almost an hour for all of them to fly off.
You have to get there before sundown to get a good spot to sit, they could have a picnic while they are waiting.

Tours of the Capitol building are free. It's huge, taller than the US Capitol building and is gorgeous inside.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is on the west side of Austin, they have a large play area for the kids and the gardens are beautiful.

The State Cemetery is a few blocks east of downtown, it's very interesting but probably not for a youngster. Texas is the only state in the US to have a State Cemetery.
