Some of my lily tree bulbs are on top of the surface this spring; what should I do, dig them all up and divide them, place more soil over them or just take the ones that have surfaced up and replant them? Thanks, flowerlady
I think I would carefully separate them and replant them. If you have extra I would love to have one or 2 and would gladly trade or pay postage
Wow, I had to Google that. My hubby would love that. Right smack dab in his lily patch at the bottom of our front garden. Must think about that one.
That's a gorgeous thing to have. One would look great in my Daylily bed too! Good luck with your babies
Tree lilies are just... lilies. Growing a bit taller than the rest But I'm confused. IF they are on top, there's no digging needed. Usually the lily bulbils (small babies) that I find on top, are small, and detached from the big one. Adding more soil is just a temporary thing and won't help much as you just create a mound. IF you think the big bulb produced more bulbils down there, you could slowly dig around it (if you know exactly where it is buried) and see if you can find more smaller bulbs. I'd plant them around the big one, but at distance. Maybe even 50cm as they grow quite large stems and blooms.
Thank you for all the comments and advice. The big bulb was about three fourth's out of the ground with a hand full of pea size bulbs underneath. I took the big bulb and a lot of the small ones up and replanted, too many other things around it to get all the little ones. I will just leave them to grow some more. Thanks again. flower lady
That IS funny. The big bulb out. Make sure you plant it deep enough. Otherwise you'll need to stake the tall flower stem.
My lily trees did well this year; just wanted to share some pictures. ( photo / image / picture from flower1lady2000's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from flower1lady2000's Garden )
Those are very pretty. Glad they are doing so well for you. Keep planting those babies and you will soon have a very nice mass planting, or you can scatter them into your other flower beds. Lilies are rather pricey so it is always nice when they multiply.
I beg to differ calin, Tree Lillies are awesome. Taller, bigger bulbs, bigger flowers. This is a Nepalease Lily, obviouly tree. I bought a bulb this year but it won't flower till next year. [/img]
