This is 3 of the 5 baby Barn swallows that hatched in our barn. They love to come up and sit on the rain gutter edge over our back deck. Or on the top of our wrought iron canopy roof supports on our lower deck.
It so fun to watch the parents swoop in and feed them, fly away, then come flying back to encourage the young ones to follow them.
Once evening comes they fly back into the barn and pig pile in their nest. Then the next day they repeat the process.
This is the second brood the parents have raised. Also is fun to watch them all flying around like dive bombers over the back pasture and yard. One would think they would crash together or into something. But they don't ever seem to.

What excellent photos. I had a nest in the shed, but they wanted nothing to do with me at all. then one day I was in front of the house where all the fennel is at and one was trapped in the foliage. It let me pick it up and I held it in my cupped hands until it regained a little strength and off it fledged from there.

You're right they are just sooo cute!! I love to watch our swallows swooping in the sky for bugs and listening to their twittering as they do. You did a great job of capturing the three youngsters with your camera and thanks for sharing them with us all.

What wonderful photos! We have barn swallows, and enjoy seeing them swoop around over the pasture, catching bugs. Ours don't pose for us like yours, though.

Thanks all for our love of these little critters also. We also have tree swallows but these guys are the really fun ones to watch. This morning I went down and opened up the barn door and there they were. All pig piled in their nest in the top rafters.
Parents know how to get out threw the little door I had when we had goats. But the kids do not yet seem to have mastered that one. :stew1:

    Cute little fellows.

A local lumber yard with open barns to store wood has so many swallows that getting lumber is a daunting task as well as entertaining.

They are sooooooo cute...I miss my tree swallows the sparrows chased them off by taking their bird house. Such a cute picture...you should enter it in a bird photo contest if you can find one.

Yes they are. Jerry I can guess that would be a rather daunting task with all the scolding from the parents that would be taking place and dive bombing.

Sherry I would miss our tree swallows also. I peg off any sparrows that try and set up house keeping in my Blue Bird houses. They are such horrible little devils.
Thanks for the encouragement in entering the photo. I know that Birds and Blooms mag. online have photo contests. I will have to check it out.
