I saw this at lowes trying to find root tone, but I found this instead. It's beautiful and is perfect for my aparment as I get nothing but indirect sunlight, so I got it. I thought it looked quite nice and share with everyone
It is a beaut. Looks like a bromeliad of some sort. If that is so, I reckon that it would like to be sprayed with water from time to time. I had a similar-looking one a number of years ago and I did not spray it often enough and eventually lost the plant. That was a shame. I cant get and keep it moist enough in the house without a humidifier.
I have tried growing one like that before indoors and it met the same fate as Sjoerds. It sure is a pretty plant! I do have one bromeliad I keep outdoors (except for the winter). It's very humid here so it does okay, but hasn't bloomed yet. Oh wait... I do have another, the "Queen's Tears" which blooms very late in the year.
Thanks, I hope I can keep it alive, and the advice of spraying it should help! since i live in an apartment which gets no direct sunlight, I am glad I found this, as it is said to be perfect for it, and it really is beautiful. I read up on it before getting it and I'm confident I can keep it happy
Very nice new plant. I have a few of those. They just hang out and mind their own business. That's a good thing. Good luck with your new plant.
Your bromeliad will eventually die after it blooms. However, given enough time it usually will produce pups. Those pups will, themselves, grow up to repeat the process. Be sure to keep your bromeliad watered, alowing water to fill the areas between the leaves and vertical member. If you are kind to your plant your reward is more plants, clones of mom. Good luck. from what I read there has to be special circumstances for it to bloom doesn't here? I read a few articles that say a certain type of gas is needed for the bromeliad to bloom and produce pups.
Not always but if you want to force it to bloom you can put a sliced apple in a plastic bag with your new house plant and seal it a little. It will produce a gas needed to bloom. Also if you want your new house plant to live longer snip of the early stage of bloom spike so it won't bloom. The plant will not die then.
