Or colorful foliage plants. I posted a picture of the new dianthus but another long blooming plant I added this spring is a Helenium 'Double Trouble'. It has been in full bloom since the first part of July and is still going strong. Last year I started seeds of Arizona Red Gaillardias and they have been blooming since June with a huge flush of blossoms in August. Anemones bloom for months here and dahlias, lavender and salvias have long blooming times too. My polyanthus flowers twice every year in spring and in autumn and I love to see their bright colours as the days grow shorter and darker.
My phlox just finished and I have a few lavender and cone flower blossoms left :-D I noticed a bud on one of my iris this weekend :-o
Eileen, Anemonies are said to be poisonous. I have a plant nibbling pet, Lavender isn't hardy here and polyanthus is an annual also. I think it may be the alkaline soil. I have several May night salvia. I love them. They bloom most of the growing season with dead-heading. Only the smaller dahlia's will bloom very long due to the short season. Tina, I do have yellow Stella and Happy Returns and they are long bloomers. Stratsmom, You are right. Phlox, especially David's, and Cone flowers are long bloomers. I guess I do have quite a few long blooming flowers so it must be that I need to incorporate more annual flowers to fill in when the perennials are resting.
dahlias, penstemons, salvias, diascis, olonsoas,to name a few all still in full flower.just waiting for the first hard frost which will see the dahlias off then I can start to get some manure on these areas got most other areas done.please dont think I have a big garden just that I have it sectioned off
