An easy photo opportunity is to set the stage. Secure a nice twig, with berries or flowers, whatever is handy, near a food source. I removed a little clump of berries in the middle for a perch. I also put a bit of peanut butter on the twig, but hidden by the leaves. When the bird arrives, click the camera. “ORDER!! ORDER!!” Screamed the Scrub Jay hopping from limb to limb. This month’s meeting of the Small Bird Society, BC coastal chapter was running late and many members were already looking eastward at the growing light. The jay threw an acorn against the wind chime. The loud gong brought instant silence. The lack of noise even surprised the jay. “Thank you.” “I will keep this meeting short as the sun is about to make an appearance.” “The sign up sheet for the new bell is full.” There were several groans from the late birds. “However,” the jay continued, “we have a new signup sheet….” Before the Scrub Jay could finish his sentence a flurry of feathers and wings had a branch long line ready to sign up for the new berry and peanut butter treat. The sun was about to make its morning appearance, an impatient titmouse called for an adjournment and a cheer of peeps had the conference room branches empty. A lone feather drifted to the woodland floor. The birds of the BC Coastal chapter knew where the best meals were located as the sun began the new day. Jerry
