Day 3 - September 30th. This morning we wanted to catch the morning sun rising from the horizon but we were a little late because I had a call of nature. Anyway the sea was really calm with hardly any waves and it was really peaceful. Morning has broken ... ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) peaceful ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) The hotel we stayed in is located by the beach. A view of the hotel from the beach ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) After breakfast, we checked out and was on the road to the Royal Town of Pahang, Pekan. We had never been to this town before and just wanted to have a look. The drive was pleasant along the coast most of the time. We were surprised to see the town to be much bigger than we expected. There are a couple of automotive assembly plants which I believe is the main economy. With the assembly plants come the supporting industry and the people. Driving further into the town we arrived at the town proper which is quite typical of the towns here. It was not big just a couple of road and most activity is centered around the market area. After driving around the town once, we decided to explore the town a little on foot. Wood and brick - All wood ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) A mixture of Old & New buildings. ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) The buildings here looks like they were from three era as the town grow. First there was the all wood buildings, then the brick, mortar and wood houses and now concrete buildings. We came across an old coffee shop and it was selling pork balls noodle with "yong tau fu". It looks good and we decided to have a bite. Yong tau foo with noodles and pork balls soup ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) YUM! Local brewed coffee ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) Nice! The Main Road ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) The car parking area is nice and best of all no parking charges. Soon we were on the road again heading for our last stop before going home. The road is rather straight ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) A rare sign of Tapir crossing ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) A truck laden with timber heading towards Segamat. ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) Our next stop is Segamat, a town famous for its durian ... I think. There is nothing much itself in Segamat except that there were lots of cafes. We were looking for a bite after the long journey from Pekan and all we could find are cafes, traditional coffee shops almost extinct. Could this be an identity crisis phenomena? After having our very late lunch, we walked around town a little and decided to head for home. It was an interesting and enjoyable trip. We got ourselves updated on the going in these remote part of the country.
Isn't it great to discover a hidden gem like the coffee shop you mentioned KK. That's one thing I really love about Malaysia and Taiwan also - every corner is brimming with potentially tasty treats! I must say that I was expecting a durian pic, that was quite the cliffhanger Thanks for taking us along on your trip. I really enjoyed that.
Very nice, KK. I can't say that I slow down as much as I should when we are on our way to somewhere specific... which is usually how I end up going somewhere. I have a particular need of an item. I just am not much of a gad about or an explorer. SO, I really appreciate the time you take to take us along on your journeys.
Thank you all, glad it was interesting and fun. Thank you Cherylad, nice of you to come. Frank we did see a big durian decoration along the road but we were not able to stop and take a photo of it. Barb you are most welcome. Glad to have you with us Carolyn.
KK NG-Wow-great job of taking us along on your neat vacation. Love seeing other cultures and the variety of scenery. The hotel looks very nice and having beach handy is great. Not to sure if I would eat the "yong tau fu". I am not that adventurous when it comes to food. But the coffee sure would hit the spot. Glad you and yours arrived home safe and sound.

Thanks Frank Glad you enjoyed it Tooty2shoes. The hotel generally is OK but it is old and was poorly maintained. For the price we paid no complaints. The "yong tau fu" is a must try, OK I'll personally make it for you and I am sure you will like it.
