Hi all. I should have posted this earlier. But the garden veggies were needing attention. So here it is. Our trip to the Porcupine Mountains, Houghton, and Calumet Michigan. The day we left the wind was pretty strong and didn't let up the whole 3 days we were gone. Figured. Couldn't even get out and enjoy the scenery because the wind froze you in your tracks. Anyway, we saw some beautiful scenery on our way up to the U.P. of Michigan. The first pic is of the Portage river in Houghton, Mich. We were on a tight time schedule and didn't make too may stops. We stayed at an a AmericInn in Silver City, Michigan. It is the closest town to the Porcupine Mountains. We arrived around 6:00pm. It was raining and the wind was blowing around 30-40 miles per hour. We settled in our cozy room and munched on the snacks we brought. Praying that the next day it would not be raining. The next morning it was still raining and the wind had not let up. We had breakfast at the hotel and by the time we where ready to leave the sun started to come out. Prayer answered. The day was beautiful but windy, very windy. Portage river in Houghton, Mich. It did indeed look very windy Tooty but at least you got sunshine to show off the beauty. I love the tree colours. Forty failed mining ventures That's a ghastly statistic.
Wow!! Great scenery. The waves on the lake are very choppy, just like the ocean. Is this before the polar winds turned the middle of the country into an icebox? Looking forward to more pictures. Jerry
WOW those autumn colours are spectacular!! I'm glad the rain stopped so that you could get out and about even although it was so windy. The lake looks beautiful albeit with choppy waves. I'm really looking forward to the rest of your photographs. :-D
A very good series of fall colours and attractive landscapes. Too bad that it was so windy and cold, I'll bet that you would have liked to have gotten out and walked a bit.
More of our Upper Michigan trip in Oct. Thanks everyone for your likes. Here are some more photo's of our trip. Jerry I think that it was a prelude for what we are now experiencing. Crazy cold and wind. Unreal. Frank yes that sure was a high failure rate. Not sure why. They has signs that read"watch out for drifting sand" ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) More scenery along the lakeshore drive up to Copper Harbor. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) Little town we drove threw on our way to Copper Harbor ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) This sign was across from the one above. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) So glad we stopped. This was a really neat little water fall. You can see the old bridge in the middle of the photo's just below the little yellow tree. One would have thought they would have removed it as it is still falling apart. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) You can see a few of the bridges wooden beams that have fallen in the river. Back on lake shore drive. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) This lake shore drive road was so beautiful. But it had a lot of twists, and turns in in. So our top speed was only 35 miles per hr. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) Another view of Eagle Harbor, MIch. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) Not much wave action in this protected harbor. I can't imagine that guy's oxen where able to make it to shore is such cold water. We finally made it to Copper Harbor Mich. We drove up a road just outside the little town to get these great pic's. You can see Copper Harbor and the little town down below. We where so glad to finally get there. Copper Harbor Mich. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) Wow, you can see forever. ( photo / image / picture from Tooty2shoes's Garden ) After these great views we drove down into Copper Harbor to find our motel. We looked and looked and looked and finally on a sign that was about 1ft by 2ft we saw it. The Brockway Inn. It was really old and I should have taken a pic of it. I guess I was in such shock that it never occurred to me. The room was well just ok. There was so much light that shined in after the lights where out I could have read a book. Yikes I thought. I'll never be able to sleep. And I did not. We did find a nice place to eat that night, and of course no pic's. Also had a good breakfast to help me have enough energy to drive the 4 hrs. home. And lots and lots of coffee. On the way home we came across the neat town of Calumet, Mich. The next shots are of some of the historic building they had preserved. Just amazing stone and brick work.
What a beautiful lovely trip Tooty2shoes, wish I could drive there from here! The lake looks amazing, just like a seashore facing the ocean and the fall colours spectacular. Thanks for the lovely trip.
