( photo / image / picture from carolyn's Garden ) Kevin has been out plowing all morning. My dad mentioned the other day he doesn't ever remember the snow and this cold before Thanksgiving. The day after, but never before. After I uploaded this thread and looked at the picture it looks like it is in black and white, but it is not. this is the color of the snow.
Wish we had gotten that much :'( Check out the National Weather Service website, I am always checking out our weather history there Weather records show that my part of north central Texas has gotten at least a trace of snow before Thanksgiving 26 years out of the past 100+ So it's unusual here but not unheard of.
That's a great picture, Carolyn. It looks like it needs to be on a Christmas card. We have about 3 inches of snow on the ground now but woke up to -08 degrees F. That kind of cold usually doesn't get here until January.
We have seen flurries and a few flakes before thanksgiving, but not measurable accumulation or the bitter cold to come yet. tonight it is supposed to be 10 degrees. That is COLD for November. I remember in 1985 it rained everyday the month of November and then my Grandma passed away and we had a funeral at the end of the month. All I remember was the rain every day. Having to do chores in the absolute slop from the cold and wet and it had no where to drain where we lived. It just seemed to set there.
We got it too. The thing that worries me the most is the winds that are supposed to start whipping around this afternoon and stick around all week. I am SO not ready for this!
Yes, just saw the long range forecast and it is warming up a little next week. I would be happy if it was even seasonal, but it feels like mid January out there today!

In the freezer here for sure! About a 2 inch blanket of the white stuff. Windchills are dangerously low. We are about 20 to 25 degrees below our normal temps for November.
Due to the lake effect, some parts of upstate NY have 4 feet of snow. Predictions of 6 feet when the storm is over. That much snow I imagine snow blowers would refuse to go outside. Jerry
No snow but cold here. I am so glad I don't live in western NY anymore. I remember well 4-6 ft. of that white stuff.
Jerry and Donna, The weather alert last night was for the lake shore and up through NY... It looked like last night (from what I could see on the weather map) was that as you got farther east the more snow was predicted and they were at 12" for overnight.... glad it wasn't us. BUT it is COLD here. Today is a high of 17f. :'(
Oh, how well I remember those dreaded words "lake effect snow" when we lived in upstate NY near Lake Ontario. Horizontal snow, howling winds, and unremitting cold. That's why we are in Texas! Now I complain if the temperatures go below freezing. How quickly we adapt . . . .
