We don't get much Fall color around here. The only trees I have that comes close are the Sycamores and the Sassafras. It has been windy the last few days and there are leaves all over the place... and they are actually prettier on the ground than on the trees! I just spent all day mulching leaves for the third time. And many more to come. But my gardens love them.
Cheryl, all we have are hackberry tree leaves. They are so small that's it almost impossible to rake them. However, the north wind that brought our current cold spell blew all the leaves into a neat pile up against our fence! When the wind stops blowing I'll take the mower out with the bag on it and mulch and catch the leaves to put into the coop, and on the garden. Sycamores are so pretty--I just may have to plant one!
I don't rake the leaves at all. They lay wherever they end up until they either blow away or disintegrate.
We've been raking leaves onto the flower beds for the past week. They keep everything nice and warm through the winter months.
Jane, don't set-out/plant one (a sycamore tree) where you will have to mow under it.. Sycamores are truly deciduous; not only do they shed leaves annually, they also shed branches on a fairly regular basis.. Check it out.. Hank

We have a few leaves from a maple among others. I leave them till early spring as I think they protect the plants from the frost. Then I compost them for the garden.
