Hey all! the name is sam. I have a tree that bears beautiful orange colored fruits but i don't know what they are or if there edible. can someone help? when cut in half they have large brown seeds and a nice peachy smell.
Hi Sam,your tree is a loquat tree, native to China and it is evergreen as you probably have already noticed. It is a popular tree here in Australia and many people love the fruit, for me..the seeds are too big, meaning not much fruit. They are used a lot for jams and jellies.Enjoy!
Oh wow thanks Chocolate! Also the fruit are edible right? However not the seeds? and also is it a variety of cumquat?
Yes Sam the fruit are VERY edible, they are a favourite of many people,a cumquat is in the citrus family.
The fruit are wonderful just a little labor intensive. We can them and our friend takes our excess and makes wine out of them. This big jug of wine from another post is made from Loquat plums. We have 2 large trees.
Here is a sight dedicated to your plums. some things to do with them. http://www.loquatworld.com/LoquatRecipes.html
Ohhh, plums are so yummy. We planted a yellow plum in our yard at least 3yrs ago. It is about 7ft. tall and we have never gotten any fruit off of it. I think the locations might be apart of the problem. But it does get beautiful fall leaf coloring.
Its a good thing you are checking to see what the fruit is before you eat it. Wouldn't want to get sick on Sunday and ruin your entire week next week if it was something harmful.
