Have this week off to catch up on sleep, read a few books, avoid house work and garden. Buried the last of the filbert logs creating a raised on one side bed. Planted an assortment of cole crops and two heirloom tomatoes. Last year this area was covered in winter squash vines. There are still a few hellebores among the blueberry bushes. The other Huglekultur in the back ground got a few of the volunteer tomato seedlings stuck in today and will get corn, kale, peas, and wheat seeds planted in it tomorrow. We've had such crazy warm weather that I have volunteer tomato seedlings. Too crazy for words. Here are a few things making an appearance at the moment. A wide variety of daffodils. Love bluebells, wonderful as cut flowers Favorite tulip Trillium Primroses. White violets Bountiful and hiho silver mini hostas. Mouse ears and Jack Frost Big old azalea There is lots more happening and lots to do. Gotta love this time of year
Simply gorgeous Jewell! There are some real beauties there - those tulips and double primrose have got to be my favorites. I do love Hosta's though, and Mouse Ears and Hi Ho Silver are on my wish list
Wow. So many lovely flowers. Your garden is so colorful already!! I need to figure out what I can plant that will put out flowers early...I just LOVE the way it looks!
Great looking garden and early plants... what wonderful promises the spring garden proposes, here's wishing you boundless energy to expend in bringing the promises to life and fruition.... Hank
Thanks Ms. K. That poor azalea has a few holes this spring and over 45 yrs has moved around a lot. It was dug from a neighbors yard and given to me when it was about 20 yrs old. Despite it all it still is covered in blooms each spring. Netty I love those tulips too. The color isn't quite the same as previous years of buying this variety but they are still pretty. Unfortunately they only come back one other spring before disappearing. Can't wait for the Master gardeners sale the first of May. That is where I got most of my little hostas. The bountiful variety is certainly living up to its name Ronni, spring bulbs always are a success. Fortunately for me the bulb sales after Thanksgiving were perfect planting weather. Riccur, I love working in the yard. Last day today to get as much as I can accomplished. Henry, I think my garden energy is about expended. One last push today and then maybe I'll taken the dust bunnies in the house that have grown into monsters.
Thanks Barb, yours will be up soon and I can hardly wait to see. Cherylad it is fun extending spring, isn't it. Oh my goodness 2forus, I am so sorry. Snow, snow go away! Thanks CM, will be on the look out for your postings too! By the way the little dogs ate all but three of my broccoli starts. Any bets on whether make it to May? Can't turn my back on little Max.
Broccoli starts! Oh my! Is Max a Corgi? My garden is just beginning to wake up. I have daffodils up about an inch or so & leaves of tulips are appearing. I have begun the spring raking process & it is feeling good to be out there. I really like your double primroses. I have a similar one, but it is a single. I think I will keep my eye out for a double like yours! Your trillium is gorgeous too! & that bluebell is putting a a great show!
Looking at your pictures again reminds me that I must plant some more early spring flowers. I have daffs and creeping phlox that are blooming now and tulips that are coming up but I need to add crocus, scilla, and snow glories (Chionodoxa).
