You would think I am living in Australia by the number of rabbits. I tried spraying repellant and it works for deer but not rabbits. The label says deer and rabbits. Do any of you have experience with growing peppers and eggplant in containers?
I've never grown peppers in pots but would it be feasible to put a chicken wire fence around the peppers or would they just dig under it?
I raise peppers in pots and they do well. We have rabbits in the yard but so far leave the peppers alone.
Jbest, we had the same problem two years ago--rabbits eating my pepper plants down to nubbins. We made cages about 2' tall and about 12" round out of hardware cloth and put them around the pepper plants. Picking peppers was interesting, reaching down into the cages, but we did get peppers. I have found no spray/repellent/discouragement that deters rabbits. Garlic spray is a condiment, hot pepper spray is a rabbit "tasty bit", and using cinnamon/pepper flakes/lemon peels just piques their little appetites. Try the cages to save your peppers and eggplants.
I did a Google image search on growing Peppers and Eggplant in containers and they are quite impressive. I am 77 years old and I think containers will solve some other problems for me.
I too have grown chili peppers in containers, and that too on my rooftop. Mainly because my area is a coastal desert and so the soil is saturated with salt. But also because we have very poisonous snakes at the ground level. Anyway, my peppers, tomatoes, onions, garlic, as well as eggplant do extremely well in containers. Actually planting garlic in the same pot as peppers will keep the aphids away too! My area is also very hot, so I use clay pots as they are porous and so stay cool during the day. Just give them plenty of manure or compost rich soil, along with plenty of sunlight - And I promise you that you'll be very pleased with the results! Just see these pictures from my rooftop garden!
