I inherited this plant from an aunt; I need to know how to re pot without getting stickers all in my hands and what kind of soil etc. It is certainly beautiful and I don't want to loose it. Thank you for your help. Flower Lady
It looks extremely happy. Beautiful! IDK that I would be considering a repot in the near future. But whenever you decide it's necessary, it might be easiest to just cut the pot off, looks plastic. Then you could grab the root ball w/o injury.
It's probably in a cactus mix soil, you can get them at any garden center. Let the soil dry out and gently pull it out of the pot, brush the soil off the roots and check for rotted or dead ones that you need to pull off. Put it in the new pot and gently backfill around the roots. Leave it dry for a week or two then start watering lightly. Don't water very often, it needs to dry out, maybe even to the point of starting to wilt, between waterings. Then water deeply but do not let it sit in a tray of water. You will need a heavy duty pair of gloves, possibly a mechanics type with leather palms and fingers. I think it's a Echinopsis but there are so many species and hybrids I don't know which one.
Beautiful plant and flowers! And look at all the baby plants. What a treasure (can you tell I love cactus)
Thank you so much for the comments and advice; I still have some buds yet to bloom so after all blooming I will repot and see what happens. I pray I don't kill it.
