Very much looking forward to heading to the West Coast next week to see my oldest son and his wife and their 4 kids! I usually go at least once a year, but it's been longer than usual since my last visit.....life last year was so tumultuous! My daughter Paige and her husband William and the two grandkids will be coming too. They've gone back with me a couple times over the last few years. But what's even more fun is that one of my other kids, Cameron, has decided to join us this year! It will be a quick trip. William just started a new job so he doesn't want to be away too long. And it is a big disruption of the kids' schedules and lives, and my grandson River particularly is very sensitive to change, so Paige doesn't want to push it too much. Corey is a firefighter/paramedic, and though he'll have time off while we're there, he's arranged with his captain to be able to take the engine out round the block, so little River can have that experience. He is going to be in 7th heaven...big trucks of any kind, and firetrucks in particular, are amongst his favorite things. Corey's already planned a few things. We'll go to the beach (Corey's arranged for surfing lessons for any that want them) then the men will head off to 6 Flags magic mountain for the rest of that afternoon and evening. (The rides there are a bit too intense for younger children.) We'll go to Disneyland, eat at the restaurant Corey owns, possibly head down to Hollywood Blvd and see Grumman's chinese theater and the wax museum, maybe Universal Studios....way too much to do, and nowhere near enough time to do it all. Personally, I'd be completely content to sit at their house and play with the grandkids. But that's me. We leave on Wednesday. I'm excited! And very much looking forward to seeing the family again!
My California kid is such a goofball! Corey just facetimed me. He was on a call, so I get this image from the cab of the engine, careening through the streets of Los Angeles, sirens blaring, two way radio blasting out information in the background, all because he thought I’d enjoy a “ride-along.” I'm glad he's thinking of me, but seriously Corey??? LOL. THAT is what I’m heading to next week. He is SUCH a character!
Corey sounds fantastic Ronni and just the kind of son anyone would love to have. It looks as though you're all going to have a blast when you get to California!! One thing you must remember though is to pack a camera so that we can share your experience once you get back. I'd love to see you tackling to the surf - have you done it before or will this be your first time? River will to be overjoyed when he learns he's going to get a ride in the firetruck but you may not be able to get him back out again. Have a wonderful time with your family and we'll look forward to hearing all about it when you get home.
That sounds like a wonderful vacation and have a great time visiting your son and his family, especially the grandkids. I'm looking forward to hearing about your trip and seeing lots of pictures. We want to see pictures of you also with kids, grandkids, and surfing!
And we're off!! Well, not quite....leaving in about an hour!! Heading to my son's and then he'll drive us to the airport from his house. Paige and William and the kiddos will leave from here shortly thereafter. I just wish it weren't so early. I hate flying, so I'd like to drink myself into a nice fuzzy stupor on the plane. Well, can't happen anyway, I need to have my wits about me to help with the kids...flying with young ones is quite the challenge, as many of you know! I''ll check in when I can!
