It has been raining constantly since I got up this morning. I have been watching the bird cams on the internet in-between watching the World Championship Speed Skating on the telly. Now it is time to post a couple of things before it is time to eat.

The wind has been blowing so hard of late that all the reed roots floating in the canal next to our lottie has all blown down to the far eastern point of the complex. We have fished five containers of roots out of the canal and were ready to take it to the dumping place when one of the guys at the lottie said that he was going to set out one of those enormous bags that sand comes in for the folks that remove roots from the canal. Since we already has ours in containers, dried out and ready to load into the auto....we were delighted and first in line. Here are the containers on a bolder car waiting to be taken up to the auto.

Here they are in the first of the bags.

The next chore has been the paths in the veggie garden.
`Laissez les bons temps rouler`, as they say in Louisiana.
The old chips had composted and desperately needed to be freshened-up. This meant digging out the old, cleaning the underlying root cloth and then dumping the new wood chips in and spreading them out.

A lady had organised chips to be brought from the council for free. That was handy, as we normally have to search the dumping places to see where we can get ours from. This saved us a step in the process.

So then, here is a stretch of path that has been emptied of old chips.

We began dumping the chips and raking them flat.

....and here the paths are all filled up and ready for the coming season.

Those paths were in the front part of the garden, this is a shot of the segment up close to the house in front of the “Pause Bench”.

All in all we laid 16 meters (~16 yards) of path, with another 6 or so meters left to go in the back of the lottie.

I like ending with something other than work foto’s...so here are some crocuses. They are closed because it was overcast with a little sprinkle of rain when we worked.

NETTY--Yes, I place some of the old chips in the compost bins, but I also use it to add to the plots and place around the base of bushes and trees.

EILEEN--Yes, I feel like it is, but you'd never know it if you looked outside though. what kind of weather are you having over there?

Snow here today, 1 to 3 inches by morning. No new leaves on anything yet. It was -6 F this morning but got up to about 19 F by this afternoon. Hopefully that was the last below zero mornings. It's going up to the 30's this week and maybe 40 on Friday. dooley

Sjoerd, It's beginning to look like spring there. My crocus are under the snow, so thanks for sending yours. They brighten my morning.

    Thanks for commenting, DOOLEY.

Wow DONNA-- you have severe weather there compared to here. It freezes a bit at night here, but nothing as serious as there.
Yeah, I have a special affinity for crocuses too. They can be so cheerful to see when everything else is so drab.

Crocus blooms! Oh, how I long for crocus blooms. Your path looks very inviting, please keep it like that until we visit next time.
