I may have mentioned a time or 2 that I am now working as a cake decorator (since July 2015). Figured I would share some of my creations There was a video on YouTube showing a decorator doing yellow and purple roses. Their customer was happy, but I thought their flowers looked...well, not that pretty. So I recreated it haha Much better, imho This was just for fun. I was kind of sad that the cake was only in the case for maybe an hour before someone bought it *lol* Customer wanted yellow and blue flowers. That was all the direction they gave me. I think it turned out alright I dont usually do freehand, but this was kind of fun to make. This Tardis cake I just felt like making for fun This one was going to be decorated with cards and such by the customer, I just provided the base cake ^_^ For a wedding These dinosaur cakes are fun. They usually just come in sheet cake form, but this customer wanted a tier cake. I wish more people would order fun cakes like this! This was for a Sweet 16. The customer wanted a fairy tale type cake. This was the only 3 tier I've done since I started working here. Most people are put off by the price ($140) although its cheap compared to if you went to a real bakery!
Ha ! What do you mean "real bakery??" You do gorgeous cakes and sell them,,sounds like a real bakery to me.
What a wonderful flair you have Jen for cake decorating. I love the ones with the flowers and, having done a few myself, I know the work that goes into them. Your cakes are really beautiful and I hope your business grows and grows for you.
I love them all. That three tiered one? How do you get the scalloping around the edges to come out even?
Thanks all ^_^ Ronni, i have a bunch of cookie cutters, 3 of which are different sized circles. I used the largest one and made a mark at the halfway point on each side and very carefully pressed it into the icing all the way round Occasionally the last half-circle overlaps, so I just try to adjust it when I pipe the swags.
Swags! That was the word I was looking for! Hmm...OK that's a good idea. I get exactly what you're saying. I don't decorate cakes like you do, nowhere near even close!!! But the occasional time when I get into it a little bit, I can NEVER get those swags even! Your explanation helps so much....you have no idea!! (Anal/ocd Ronni over here!!)
*giggle* You could also take a plastic or styrofoam cup and cut it in half to make a half circle, Ive seen a decorator on YouTube do that.
Very very nice! I especially like the wedding cake for its simplicity, very elegant. I worked in the food industry(now retired) for 25+ years and for the last 15 I was into cake decorating. I loved it and still continue to do a few cakes from home. You are right, people are cheap! They want a cake of their dreams and never give a thought to the cost of ingredients. So from an old retired cake decorator I must say you are doing lovely work. Keep it up and go beyond your "comfort zone" You have a talent for decorating and I will look forward to seeing more of your creations.
