My daughter-in-law bought us both a hanging basket, but we don't know what it is. The leaves are teardrop shaped and have slightly jagged edges. Some are purplish on the underside. The leaves are textured like peperomia, but it is not one of them. I have pictures, but need to figure out how to post them.
SongofJoy,..i started guessing,..then realized there were numerous plants i know that would fit the description,..sooo i will keep my fingers crossed for a picture,...if you have a picture reduce the size to 800x600,..then below here click on 'Upload an image',..you can then find your picture and just click on it,..bingo its here,..click on 'Full Image' if you want.
do you have some kind of begonia maybe. There are several new varieties out there. dragonwing, Bossa Nova, babywing... some of the fiberous begonias may be used for hanging baskets, too. or does it not have flowers at all? is it all foliage? dig into the basket around the edges. Many times the tags are hidden from all the new growth on the plants.
I agree with Carolyn about it possibly being a begonia. If it is you should be getting some flowers from the basket soon.
Thank You for explaining how to upload....sometimes I am pretty low tech. I will need to resize the picture as it is too large.
Oh my, the pressure's on! I don't think I've seen this plant before, but found a possible match. Pic also said "Plectranthus" to me. Maybe Plectranthus oertendahlii http://www.alternativeeden.com/2014/08/favourite-plant-of-week-plectranthus.html
I knew if anyone would be able to identify it,it would be folks from the garden stew gang!!!! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! You just made my day. I wish you nothing, but blessings for your weekend!!!!
I did a bit more investigating and apologize for leading you astray before, and don't usually stop an investigation with a blog. The pics were so good, I assumed the author had the correct name. Often not the case. Searching for confirming images and description for P. oertendahlii leads to a variegated plant. These sites are reliable, and have some fantastic pics, and offer spurflower as a common name for this one: http://www.rnzih.org.nz/pages/plectranthusciliatus.htm http://www.plantzafrica.com/plantnop/plectranthusciliatus.htm http://www.smgrowers.com/products/plants/plantdisplay.asp?plant_id=1297 Swedish ivy usually attaches to Plectranthus verticillatus. As another Plectranthus, it's similar but its' leaves aren't purple on the back, and much more smooth on the surface. http://www.gardenstew.com/plantstew/565414 Another similar one that does have purple on the backs of leaves is 'Mona Lavender.' http://www.gardenstew.com/plantstew/9001171
