85 degree's F and 65% humidity. Only lasted an hour and a half. Good thing a lot of hoeing was done through the week. Maybe I'll get the cabbage sets out tomorrow, and the milkweed seedlings, and something else.....I don't know what. Now is time for some ice water, back porch swing, and bird watching. Saw a Baltimore Oriole in my tomato's earlier today.
FBG, one of the great pleasures of gardening is doing what you can, and then resting on the porch with a cold drink and watching the wildlife enjoy your efforts! I have learned that the task at hand will still be there tomorrow, but the oriole in the garden might not be. I'm all for taking a moment (or hour) to relax and see what's going on in the garden. I'm glad you are of the same mind set.
When I see the temperature's some of you are having I really appreciate living on this mountain! It's been warm the last few days, maybe up to 75F (23.8C) but right now it is 65F (18.3C) and overcast. Good working weather.
Weather was up to 90's today. It's early to be having 90's here. Farmer's Market started. The temperature didn't seem to keep anyone home. It was packed with both vendor's and buyers. I have to push my walker and the other people were so helpful and moved or cleared a path for me. We bought a jar of honey. We knew the lady selling it. She told us she would be there. We were just waiting for the market to start so we could buy some. She would have brought us some but we wanted to go to the market. We went every Saturday last year and will be going every Saturday this year, weather permitting, of course.
I love Orioles! (The bird, the team, the town, the state of MD.) Orioles are beautiful and just rare enough to give a little thrill.
It's been in the high 90's here all week. Typical for Nashville this heat wave was sudden. No gentle climb, just coasting along in the 70's and very low 80's and mild with no humidity, then BAM!!! Overnight we're in the high 90's and I feel like I'm suffocating every time I go outside. The outside pots at Ed's house that were looking so lovely and lush and verdant are now looking wilty not even a half day after I've watered them. Because I can't be there to water them every day (and Ed sometimes forgets...they're my thing not his) I've moved them to the porch where it's more shaded, and hope that I can keep them going through the summer by giving them sun relief when I'm not there. We'll see I guess. FBG I don't blame you in the least for bagging it and heading for the ice water and a fan. I can't stay outside in the sun for very long either. If you think my plants wilt, you should see me!!!
Weather is similar to yours FBG,..up in the high 70'sF yesterday and humid,..changed to lighter clothes but still too warm to garden,..went down to the cool of the river
