Fortunately for me it is in our back yard, in visits a Mt Ash tree and makes his holes to collect the sap. You can see the holes and also the red on his neck, so it is called a Red-naped Sapsucker. Over 20 birders have come around to see it, it has come every morning for the last 9 days.
Obviously word has got around that your garden is the place to be. I just hope all those birders don't disturb it too much and that it keeps on visiting you.
I know most of the birders and they know the etiquette required around birds. All stayed on the road and didn't disturb it at all. Sometimes it stayed for over 3 hours.
Kildale what a blessing. We have the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in our woods but only see evidence of it being there by the holes in the trees. What a thrill.
cool. I had a yellow bellied sap sucker once. I have lovely rows of the evidence left behind. I never saw it again after that.
a Sapsucker huh? Cool, i never heard of this type of bird before......but i don't know too much about birds. Neat habit it has with the trees.
