Lol Deanna,..i have had many an accident in the garden,..poked myself in the eye with a short cane,..fell into a rose bush,..stabbed myself in the neck with the Yucca alifolia pointed leaf,..bent over to get the scent of a low growing rose and poked myself in the rump with a leaning over cane. You may like the plant below,..i got some with roots growing on a neighbors wall,..its about 3 Ft high. Centranthus ruber 'Red Valerian' or also named Spur Valerian/Kiss-Me-Quick/Devils Beard/Jupiters Beard. Some No ID Roses.
Rain most of the time for the past four days,..they say it never rains,..but it pours!,..just told that the neighbor next door who is 87 went into a Care Home,..discovered this as the relatives were removing her belongings,..she won't be coming home,..very sad to hear. Phygelius ( Cape Fuchsia 'Funfare Orange' ),..in full bloom now. Lilium 'Tiger Mix',..several masses of these in the garden. Lilium 'Red Joy',..masses of them with huge amount of blooms atop each plant. Lilium 'Dimension',..producing the same blooms in abundance on each plant. Hollyhocks are in bloom,..these are from the New Zealand Seeds,..no Hollyhock Rust,..so far. Rose ( Rosa Handel )
I do like that Jupiter's beard!! I looked at the nurseries this summer but didn't have any luck. Perhaps I'll look for seeds on ebay. I pass a very tall plant on my way to work each day, I might have to visit it some evening....
very pretty. Sorry to hear you are losing the neighbor to a home, but maybe she isn't safe by herself anymore? That is important. my inlaws are getting up in years and as long as they are safe that is the baseline for them staying in their own home but, of course, we are right next door otherwise they wouldn't have been able to stay there this long.
Lol Deanna,..that's how i got mine,..i must check for seeds here in case you don't get the chance to visit that plant on your way to work Carolyn,..very true,.. she wasn't really with it for a few days,..she admitted to me that she was,.." away with the Fairies",..getting her days mixed up,..thinking she had visitors in the house,.. then wondered where they had gone after she returned from the bathroom then me trying to explain they never were there.
Sooooo we had days of rain,..not liking to be housebound i got myself a Pet Sitter and headed off to the City for a few days,..shopping of course,..now we have a heatwave temperatures 35C-96F. Hollyhocks are disappointing this year as they all seem to be the same color bloom,..so far. A Lily seed from Deanna produced this bloom. Yellow blooms showing on the Helichrysum italicum ' Curry Bush '. Lavatera ' Baby Barnsley '. Rose ( Rosa Ice Cream ),..other name ' Memoire '
OO I love the colour of your hollyhocks. For some strange reason I don't seem to be able to grow them here. I've not seen a 'Baby Barnsley' before but would have it in my garden any day. Around here it's the pink Lavatera you see and, I'm afraid, it isn't a favourite of mine as I'm not a great fan of that shade of pink.
Beautiful flowers, as always. I fell in lust with your Lavatera and quickly looked it up to see if I could get one. Unfortunately, I live in too cold of area for it.
Hi Eileen,..your liking that hollyhock makes me feel a bit better,..seeing i was moaning because they were all the same color this year,..first time this has happened. That Baby Barnsley is a big one,.. reaching over six foot and loves plenty of water,..the latter we get plenty of so no problem there,..i do like the bloom its the same size as the pink Musk Mallow,..oh as for the Hollyhocks not thriving in your garden,..that could be a godsend,..they do look terrible when they get rust and boy do i need big canes to support them. ========================================================================= Hi Cayuga Morning,..thanks,..that bloom has a sheen,..sort of silky ========================================================================= Hi 2ofus,..lol i love that comment,..fell in lust with that Lavatera,..shame you can not grow it in your area,..isn't it always the same when one catches your eye. Another image of that Lavatera. More of the Hollyhock,..with the light behind it. Dahlia ' Golden Scepter '. Clematis ' Freckles '. Hydrangeas. General View.
Thank you Islandlife,..thank you folks for the "Likes". I posted a picture of a Pink Hydrangea that i changed the color to Blue in another Thread,..using Hydrangea Colorant Powder,..i mentioned that using this powder also gave me bigger blooms,..i have not come across mention of this happening on the instructions of use or elsewhere,..below is a picture taken in the past week or so and it shows the bloom has five sections or florets,..the middle and four outside,..this is a big bloom. Lace Hydrangea. This Lace Hydrangea is pink and was a cutting i took last year,..this is its first bloom. Rose ( Rosa 'Sunsprite' ) Same Rose fully opened. Lilium 'Pixels Mix',..with Musk Mallow.
I'm not a lover of hydrangeas as a rule but I do really like your blue one Philip. I knew you could change the colours of these flowers but wouldn't have known how to go about it. Your Lace hydrangea is even converting me to pink as it's not the wishy washy pink that most are here.
Eileen,..sadly they take up a lot of room as they mature though i suppose i should prune them back so they don't take over,..nice thing about them is they don't need a lot of care,..just water. I have a red one coming along though it may not bloom this season as the cutting was taken only a few months ago,..still fingers crossed,..interesting you should mention the pinks being wishy washy where you are,..i don't know how to make them more pink,..only to blue,..or a dark one more dark,..i must experiment with other flowers using the colorant powder.
