@Mobil8181 - If these (in my photos) are the same plant then stake your up. When I've been in Trinidad I've seen these growing almost like trees and they're staked up outside in fields. They grow HUGE and seem to love full bright sun (if they are the same plant).
WOW I didn't know what I was up for. I live in an apartment with some room and mine are branching out. Guess I will have to get a bigger pot. Thanks for your help Ed
@ Ed - I've had the same type of cactus you have and NEVER staked it up. It grew sideways, trailed, broke off and grew all over but never ONCE did I think about staking it up until I saw these growing in a field. Was amazed. These guys are growing in an area of a huge plant nursery in Trinidad that specializes in all sorts of exotics (well exotics to me). They had an entire field of them all staked up. First time the light bulb went on for me but it makes sense to get them going high and then let them branch out
Mb8- I don't think that yours will grow quite that big. So many of our indoor plants are tropical and stay smaller because they do not have the same growing conditions. Wow, Islandlife---that is really unusual looking at the way they put the cactus growing up those poles. Do they do anything with them I am wondering?
@Tooty2shoes - It is a HUGE acreage nursery there. Walking through the orchids and all plants tropical is like a kid walking through a candy shop. I didn't get to specifically talk to anybody about those staked up cactus but my guess would be they're somehow propagating them for export.
It's dragonfruit. They grow them a lot in Hawaii. Grow them up big two by four like pieces of wood. I've got some a friend brought back who's from Hawaii. They're the same cactuses they use grow moon cactuses on actually.
