According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) here in the USA, many poultry owners kiss and cuddle their chickens, and even allow them in the house. This is raising red flags as to disease transmission, presumably from the chickens to humans, since the CDC isn't involved in chicken health. I keep chickens, and am very fond of them. Yes, I pick them up and examine them for impacted crops, bugs, feather problems, etc. but NEVER have I been tempted to kiss a chicken. As for letting any of my ladies into the house--chickens are not house broken and leave deposits when and where they wish (and they are a wishful lot). I am posting this in the interest of the continued health and well-being of all who keep poultry. Restrain that urge to kiss a chicken!
Good posting, Jane. Well, I am through with chooks now. No more Eskimo kissing of chooks when and where I find them. I thought that I was being friendly.....gosh, have been a dumb cluck, er wot ! I have never brought a live one into the house, even though the rest of the flock egged me on to do so. Yeah, now that the study is out, I do not really have anything to crow about with my trained chook circus. The tour must be put on hold now, I am afraid. No one else had such a circus....There for a moment I was feelig so cocky...like the only rooster in the hen house, and I guess it showed. Well, I guess that their futures are in bedding and fast food now. Poor things. You know Jane...I think that it was actually your revealing comments about their wishes that was their greatest undoing. They carried the term Cockerel-doodle-doo a little too far. Don't-cha think.
Ewwwww - I've had chickens, named them, gave them daily kitchen 'treats' (leftovers) and once bought them a HUGE pumpkin which they happily ate and even went inside the pumpkin to do so (quite cute). I've picked them up, clipped their wings, powdered them with dust for mites but never once have I been tempted to kiss them.
No point in telling me that ! I have had yard chickens,,I know what they eat. Bugs excluded. For anyone that thinks a chicken is happy with grass, bugs and the grain we give them,,do I have news for you,,,!
Amazing video,..i found it interesting and funny,..seeing the Chicken Breeding Farms would put me off.
Ewww.. I have chickens in my home and most of the time they'll be inside our home.. But kids won't touch or kiss them.. I'll be careful from now.. Thank you for posting this useful information.
