Rcently I got some Baobab seeds. I looked up the web to seed how to plant them, the odd thing is that you need to pour boiling water on them and let them soak for 24 hours. I did that and after one week I got them sprouting (I planted 4 seeds [on 23 July 2016], 3 sprouted [on 05th August 2013]) Here is the seeds sprouting (05th August 2016): After around a month (16 September 2016):
YEA!!!! Good job, hope they will grow and grow for you. I look forward to seeing more of their progress.
That is really interesting that it takes BOILING water.......wonder how they germinate in nature? Wonder what it takes? I know some seeds need to be frozen and some pass through the digestive tract of an elephant but 'boiling' water to start germination is a new one to me. Send photos - this'll be good seeing how they grow!
I have grown these trees but never from seed. I remember about the boiling water but have never done it with any other seeds...Very nice to see it works....
Interesting. Fair sized seeds too. Look like beans and again I have never heard about the boiling water idea before. Please keep the pictures coming as the plants progress.
Update on the progress: one of the three seedlings had died unfortunately, however the other two are doing well (Photos taken on 2 August 2017):
