I have been parceling out my small store of shelled pecans to make sweet breads for the holidays. When I went to the hair salon today, one of the ladies gave me a ONE GALLON BAG OF SHELLED PECANS! Not only were they shelled and picked out, but they were halves! I nearly cried (I admit to a sniffle or two when I got back to my truck). What a wonderful, thoughtful, kind and generous gift!
I've shared garden produce and breads with these ladies, but this gift was more than I could ever give or expect. It looks like the holiday baking is going to be pretty good this year!

That is really nice to hear, Jane. It restores faith in mankind.

I'm afraid, and a little embarrassed to say, that pecans don't last long enough to make anything but a snack here. Even the dog loves them!! I'm glad you got such a wonderful and thoughtful gift Jane and I just know that your sweet breads will be delicious.

Wow...a lady I used to know would clean the nuts and sell them. It is a time consuming project so just think of her when you make a dessert. Our neighbor likes to share what she makes and it is very much appreciated, she is such a good cook and baker.

I have a vacuum sealer for sealing nuts, etc. in jars. We just don't eat a lot of certain things and the sealer works out great. The only thing we don't seal are potato chips, we don't buy them very often and when we do they are gone right away. :)
