A few inches of snow today, I think the birds are bolder when the snow covers everything. Here is the small Anna's hummingbird and the big pileated woodpecker today, along with a house finch that looked good in the snow.
We don't have any snow or any of the birds in your photographs. All three are looking good so it must be the food you leave out for them.
More nice pictures Kildale. This is our Great Spotted Woodpecker for comparison with your woodpecker. Very similar colouring.
The woodpecker I posted is about 17 inches, we have the downy at around 7. Yours looks like the size of our flicker 12 inches.
Here's a picture of a Hairy woodpecker. Kinda similar to your GSW Raddang, with the exception of the red belly, and just a tad smaller. Here is a Red belly woodpecker on the same feeder. A little larger than the hairy. And last is a Downy woodpecker. I thought I had a pic of one on the same feeder for comparison, but it's not to be. The suet cage is 6" x 6" so you can see how much smaller the downy is compared to the hairy.
I have the cage just not the birds. It may be coincidence that there is a lack of birds since the Leylandi were cut down. Would love a Hummer in my garden... K
Love the woodpeckers. There is a flicker at my daughters house who insists on pounding the metal downspout at the back of their house. He has been out there daily since last spring and hasn't given up yet.
