Hello everyone. These are some of the things I am trying to grow. African violets, sweet pea, calla lilies, wisteria, desert bird of paradise, coral bells, morning glories, an unknown (seeds went through washer & I lost tag) I am also winter ssewing several other kinds of seeds outside.
FUN! Here's some of my recent propagations: 2 pineapples, from cutting off the tops of grocery store-bought fruits and literally sitting them on the ground during summer. Potted to bring inside for winter. A bunch of Begonia cuttings, stuck in this pot in October.
well done. those little begonias are boogers to get started. I started seeds in Jan and they are just tiny now... you must have started those in Dec.. I am shocked to see the roots of the rosemary. that is hard to get started, too.
TYVM! I've never tried Begonias from seeds, but the cane and rhizomatous types take root easily from cuttings. I put the cane stems right in soil and fro the rhizomatous Begonias (like Rex and beefsteak,) I remove a leaf, let it dry a few days, then put in a bottle of water so the tip is submerged about 1/2", until roots form. A lot like propagating an AV leaf.
Bosque, is that seedlings in the second photo ( & 6th photo, chuckle...I can so relate to posting issues) a nicotania? Lime Ricky Nicotania?
I have never done this ... explain to me again what you do... I am not following the "submerged" part? I must be dense. I need pictures? what part gets submerged? the stem end or the tip end?

Are you sure? those look like petunias to me and look closely at them... there is a little debris which makes me think "aphids" on the one on the right.
I sure hope they are heuchares. I made a seperate trade with someone on another forum who offered to send me some seeds after a big seed swap had ended and I wasn't able to get any. This person was really nice & sent me 5 different kinds of her heuchares. I didn't trade anything special for them. I don't have anything I consider special PS, the debris in the photo is just water drops, I mist them often because NM is drier then dirt right now. The dirt is dry, the air is dry. I might even say the water is dry but I guess that might be taking it a little far lol
I think you did not get heucheras.... this is what my petunia seeds started at the beginning of Feb look like and an older tray, too. I also see the water on the plant but look closely at the stem and new leaf emerging... that looks like aphid debris. do you winter over any plants inside your house? sometimes they harbor small colonies of aphids.
No, I started everything from seed. I started those (hopefully) huecheras seed at the beginning of December 2016.
Sorry, I meant to say submerged in water and the "in water" part didn't make it. Everything in this pot except the 'Limelight' Dracaena was started as a cutting, at one time or another. The tall cane Begonias & the stems of wax Begonia were added in October, I think, or early November.
