More rain, wind and very low temps today, so no garden work. I did go to a Market today and ate a burrito, had some Italian ice cream and oh yes.....bought a couple of plants. The lady brought them especially for me, so I had to go out in the weather no matter what.---A given word for an appointment is a word given, sooooo...out I went.

It was spitting rain when we went. We walked there across the dike by our home. It was a bit exposed, but we are hardy folk and used to it. We proceeded on to the market than walked back through the woody park that is situated beside the old Zuyder Zee. We were gone 2-3 hours, I reckon. I was happily strolling along with her on my arm and whistling as I swung the sack with the twp Thalictrums. Thalictrum flavium ssp. glaucum is what I had bought.

So we got back and it was tea time here. I put the kettle on and pulled out some pure chocolate wafers. We had the tea and chatted about what we saw and how good the food was...then the bride went in to the table by the window to play on her tablet and I came into the multi-media room to sit here at the pc.

So, I am sat here typing-away; when at one point, I heard her say, "Hey!--What's that clicking sound? It's rain! No...hang on...it's HAIL...HAIL, oh noooooo" !
    I said, "Hail NO" !!
To which she peplied, "Hail YES" !

I went and had a look and sure enough lots of hail balls were on the windowsill and turning the grass below white. She expressed concern for our blooming strawbs, to which I over trumped by saying, "Strawbs?-- To heck with the coupla strawb blooms, what do you think about our newly planted broad beans, all tender and exposed in their plot".
Öh yeah, there are those....", she moaned.

Sjoerd, how on earth does one post after reading your exciting day? :nerdy:
I hope the hail didn't do damage.

Today I planted two short rows of potatoes.
I have a lettuce mix peeping up in the wee peat pots.
It is gardening time in Michigan.

planted transplants a good portion of the day. watered the greenhouse... ran to get chicken grain and inserts for flats since I ran out of 1801's, went to get a thingamajig for a friend while he helped Kevin on the new tunnel. tired.

Oh, Sjoerd! so sorry about the hail, I sure hope it didn't do much damage.

GROWING--Chuckle....well, I don't know it it was exciting, but it was certainly a fun day with the exception of the surprise hailstorm.

Thanks C--I shall pop out to the lottie to see what the damage was. It sounds like you had a busy day (as usual) there. I hope the store wasn't out of thingamajigs. ;)

The only thing I did in the garden today was to bury compost peelings.
My thighs are sore from yesterday's work. All the up and down pulling out and digging out weeds.

Checked on yesterday's possible hailstone damage to the lottie plants. There was no damage. yippee !
Mowed the paths and checked the camera. Dug some weeds.
    Looked in the bee hives.

    S. the store was saving the thingamajigs for him. it was some kind of extension sprayer for cans of pruning paint... but he was trying to get to the eves of his house to kill the carpenter bumbles. he said it worked great. life is good.

Sjoerd, so glad the hail didn't damage your plants at the allotment!
Kildale, showering hummingbirds is a form of husbandry. Our veggies can't fly, but what you care for, can!
Picked lettuce, baby carrots, turnips, edible pod peas, and lettuce and prepped everything for distribution tomorrow. I have a bucket of rainwater that I dip the root vegetables in, and then use that water with the good dirt to water plants. With all the rain we've had, I don't really need to water anything!

We had huge rain, so gardening is out for today. I am a bit disappointed with the Asparagus regrowth. I see only 10 spikes and we set out more.
The lettuce mix in peeping up in the half barrel planter.
Sjoerd, I'm so glad your plants are not harmed by the hail.

The compost that we put in the greenhouse was germinating!! Had to remove those little things. The toms must go in next month.
Thanks Jane. I was quite relieved.

Oh my stars! Whoever was on top, standing on the pipes is very, very brave! What a great hoop house you have there. May it bring you much pleasure and profit:setc_083:.
Nothing going on in the gardens here today. We have ripping winds and even if I wanted to dig and delve, it wouldn't be a good idea!

Thanks.. But no worries. The neighbor came and brought his boys to help. They own a farm market and are good neighbors
We paid them ( a pitance) to help. Then we gave them one of the old houses we took down since we didn't need it anymore. We are finishing up the sides and then I can get my tomatoes planted in it.
