What have you done today in the Garden?

Sjoerd, Eileen taught me the word "dibbling" and now I'd like you to tell me what "schoffeling" means. Not only am I learning great gardening techniques, but expanding my vocabulary as well!

 

Yes inquiring minds want to know.....schoffeling

 

Shoveling? or not lifting up your feet perhaps. Schaufel is german for spade.

 

ooooh such a lovely lot of potatoes. I too am doing the trench method, but I didn't plant nearly so many.

 

@Sjoerd. Hi Sjoerd, I have mentioned the hugh lorries with trailor that bring supplies of plants from Holland to my local garden centre. We went along this morning to buy annuals for the pots on the patio. This is part of the covered area with many plants that have travelled all the way from Holland.
We are delaying planting for another week or two because we still have a risk of overnight frost.

 

Growing pains, good to know!! I am excited about them! I haven't done anything today, but the past few weekends have been very productive. All beds besides the cucamelon bed is complete. Generally everything is planted or started. Corn is starting to come up, i've harvested 3 sets of radishes already. And lets talk about lettuce. I've never grown lettuce before. I got 6 very young plants and HOLY MOLY!!!! That will be something I do from now on most definitely. Its absolutely beautiful. Its getting to be strawberry season here! Who doesn't love that. It has been a little on the chillier side (hi's upper 60's lows in the upper 40's) but everything in seems to be content.

 

I pulled the last of the turnips after watering the beans, corn, tomatoes, peppers, and squash. We are hoping for rain Thursday, but if we don't get it I'll haul my water buckets out and have at it.

Reddang... that is a big greenhouse.

Lots of watering and shuffling tomatoes in and out of the greenhouse. out to keep them from getting leggier and back in because it is too cold to leave them out at night. sigh. ready for warmer nights. we planted up 120' row of cabbage, broccoli and lettuce. we invested in a small hand tool called a back pack transplanter. it has a T handle with back pack tank and a hose attached at the bottom of the tool. it also has a wedge and a spring activated water release. as you push the tool down the wedge opens up a hole while at the same time releasing water from the back pack into the hole. the second person then plops the plant into the "mud" hole and you move on. really handy tool. well worth the $$ Kevin spent on it. I was bit worried it was going to be a "waste" of money and not be very effective. NOT. we got that long row done in pretty quick order. and that was the first of the plants we start planting in the garden.

 

I helped mom till finally yesterday and today I started transplanting everything with her

 

Stopped by one of our favorite nurserys and picked up a few bargains they had some cayennes on sale for cheap so we stuck 4 of them in the garden. Some already had pickin size peppers on em. We also got some marked down muscadyne grape vines and planning on sticking them along the fence today. replaced 2 missing blue berry bushes and did a bunch of weeding and ferilizing and general playing in the yard. Brought in or first cucumber too. Woo hoo!!

 

We went to a huge garden centre in Spain yesterday. We had been planning this for 2 months, so we were really excited. It is huge. When we got there, we found that the vegetable section was really tiny. We were gutted, but we bought 100 capsicum and 50 aubergines, so our journey was not wasted. Our budget did not stretch to flowers unfortunately.

 

Tied some tomato plants and just admired the wonderful growth of the plants.

It came an all day rain and really came down the gardens got well watered and this postponed planting a few things It aughta dry up enough to get back to working and planting and playing early next week.......maybe

 

Planted some Shasta Daisies and a few annuals today. Also cleaned out my container fountain and set it up for the summer.
