Running through a large patch of wild garlic is NOT recommended though for a wet hound. Even the poor dog couldn't stand the smell of that!! We certainly didn't mind him going into the water again.... in fact we were ready to throw him in if he hadn't gone by himself. :smt064

Oh boy,..running through Wild Garlic,..and wet into the bargain,..now that is not a pleasant smell,..its overpowering,..i slept on one of the Islands where there was a mass of Wild Garlic,..despite making Molly swim to get rid of the smell,..well truth be known she didn't have to be asked to swim,..she carried the smell home,..so did i,..we reeked of it :sete_010:

Yeah I've heard that story before Molly. Dogs so love to get dirty and her little face tells you that she thinks being a mucky pup is just fantastic. That big grin of hers says it all.

Eileen,..there was at least 100yards on either side of us,..sandy strand,..Molly had to jump off a wooden bridge which was over a dyke,..full of mud,..yes she decided to jump there,..i threw a stick into the water but it didn't clean her face :whistling:

Who wants a dog to have a clean face anyway? Ours is usually covered from head to toe in muddy sand after a trip to the beach. It takes Ian ages to clear the sand from the boot of the car. I think Molly is so adorable when she's wet and muddy.

We went down a different route along the river to see what new work was done by the Local Authority,..busy little bees they are,..making good changes everywhere,..new fishing jetties which rise and drop as the river level changes,..sturdy looking jobs.

Then Molly went up to her tummy in mud,..which called for a swim,..all planned i think.

Very seldom do i meet tourists on my walk along the fields close to the river,..however last week it was an English Husband and Wife in their 60's,..today it was an Australian Husband and Wife around the same age.

A scorcher of a day so too warm to do any gardening,..so off to take Molly for a swim.

Now who would guess that Molly loved playing in the water? Sheer joy is written all over her little face. I do sooo love to see photographs of her.:smt060

Eileen,..its the webbed feet,..i didn't know about this until Molly's previous owner casually mentioned it,..of course that was close to 13 years ago.

We had rain most of yesterday so we were housebound,..ideal time to tidy up the house and give Molly a rest.

    Myosotis arvensis 'Field Forget-Me-Not'.

The story about this weed/plant is that in medieval times a knight and a maiden were walking alongside a river,..the knight picked a bunch of blue flowers for the maiden,..on reaching down for more he stumbled and fell into the river,..wearing his armour of course,..starting to sink he threw the bunch of blue flowers to the maiden,..calling,..Forget-Me-Not,..supposedly that is why the blue flowers were thereafter named Forget-Me-Not :)

I'll never look at my forget-me-nots in the same way again after reading how they got their name. Mine are starting to die back now but they were so pretty for a while. I think the intense heat we've had for the last few days may have made them wilt quicker than usual despite me watering them with tepid, not cold, water.

Eileen i can well imagine how the heat we are having dries up soil and wilts flowers,..many of mine are in containers and despite some being in very large containers the soil can go bone dry in a day of full sun,..i do water the roots on very warm days ensuring i don't get water on the foliage.

My Cranesbill Geraniums will fall over half way through a warm day,..so its a must for me to water them every day,..isn't gardening a full time job :).

Sorry for informing you of the belief on how the Forget-Me-Not got its name,..Newfoundlanders use the Forget-Me-Not to commerate their fallen from the first world war,..particulary the Battle of the Somme,..Alzheimers Association also use the flower as their emblem.

I actually liked the tale about the forget-me-nots Philip. I'd never heard a story before about how they got their name but one that incorporates love and tragedy always gets to me.

Eileen i love stories like that as i always remember them,..although it wasn't an Irish Story,..we do have a story for most things,..just like you do in Scotland,..of course we both have a very long history to relate,..somewhere in the 1,500 year range :sete_018::sete_018:.

Molly and I had another long walk,..covering the Meadows where the Buttercups are,..then along the Canal and down to the river of course as her nips wanted a swim.

I live just left of the two Church Steeples in the distance,..approx 200 yards,..so right on the edge of town.
