July 12th 2017. I have a couple of Amaryllis indoors,..each year they get bigger and produce off shoots,..this year i have one that has reached 4Ft high and hoping it will present me with lots of big blooms,..some of my Amaryllis bloom at Christmas,..others during Summer. Coleus,..kept going from taking cuttings each year. Sedum 'Dragons Blood'. Geranium. Zantedeschia aethiopica 'Arum Lily',..several of these in bloom at present.
I really like the first shot of your Arum lily where you can see right into the flowers centre. I haven't had Coleous for years. I loved their leaf colours so don't know why I stopped growing them. Maybe I should begin again with them after seeing your photographs.
Eileen the Arum Lily has a beauty all of its own,..a huge Bloom and a tall plant,..alas many people don't like them,.. the Coleous has a very attractive leaf in blues and purple and mixed,.. sadly i have just the one above,..i did have other colours but come winter they died,..however the one above grew from cuttings which survived over winter. ===================================================================================== Rose (Rosa 'Fond Memories'). Rose ( Rosa 'Sunsprite' ) Rose ( Rosa 'Ice Cream'),..it is also named 'Rosa Memorie'. Rose ( Rosa 'Fragrant Cloud' ) Rose ( Rosa 'Reine des Violettes' ) Rose ( Rosa 'Handel' ) Last but not least is a Blood Red Rose,..it stands out against all the other reds,..alas no name for it.
I'd love to have a whole patch of Arums Philip as I really like the height they grow to and the fact that they can make real statements in a garden. I can't grow Coleous except indoors here. Our Scottish weather is a tad harsh for them.
Philip, your garden is a work of art...and consistent loving work no doubt. I have much to do in mine to get it back in shape after two years of neglect. You are awe inspiring and I will continue to visit yours until mine is looking more kept.
Eileen,..that's exactly how i was thinking of late,..to have a whole patch of Arums,..if i move certain plants to another area and perhaps get rid of a few Cape Fuchsia 'Lemon Drops Cream',..which i have too many of and don't fancy them as much as the Funfare Orange type,..at last count i had 7 Arums,..that would need a large space when they all mature,..of course they multiply,..dang it,..its like musical chairs lol. Oh i grow my Coleous indoors,..trouble is the space all my indoor plants take up and i don't have a lot of space to spare . ====================================================================================== Jewell,..how are you?,..so nice to see you drop in here,..oddly i was thinking of you and Cheryl and realized i missed seeing both your gardens,..i was walking along the river bank at the time and of course i ended up with many gardens i remember from the Forum,..none to be seen now alas. Jewell you will enjoy getting your garden back into shape,..once you start and it gets into your head you will be arranging things even when away from the garden ,..meanwhile keep looking in here ==================================================================================== Within a few days the Malva moschata 'Musk Mallow',..have really come into bloom. Rose ( Rosa 'Laurie's Golden Orange' ),..has started to come into bloom,..this Rose is not registered and was grown from seed. Having a Cottage Garden and it being packed with plants some interesting mixes of blooms appear frequently,..the one below has Rose ( Rosa 'Sunsprite' ),..growing along with 'Crocosmia',..and a cutting taken last year of Hydrangea Mophead,..producing its first bloom. Anyone looking at this Thread could become bored looking at the Hydrangea Mix images,..but enjoy them while they are in bloom,..i really am pleased with these,..four Hydrangea in containers alongside each other. The Lily blooms below were tall each year,..this year they have surpassed themselves growing close to 6 Ft. Images taken late in the evening with flash.
Philip, will continue enjoying your garden. Have been weeding a small section at a time and getting plants out of pots and into the ground. Thinking all the time about where to plant them. Am traveling this summer and fall so won't be doing regular watering that pots need. It is amazing how fast things can change in the garden.
Jewell,..that's good to know,..you are wise to do the weeding a little at a time,..then return with eagerness rather than remember the suffering from doing too much strain on ones back in the last session . Ah on the move Summer and Fall good for you,..i am stuck with the pets as i have no pet minder on a regular basis,..just lucky when i do get one,..oh yes the garden can certainly change in a very short time,..when one is away we tend to think everything will wilt,..amazing how surprised we are when that was not the case,..everything just grew,..weeds in particular. ==================================================================================== Hi Carolyn,..every day there are more blooms on the Mallow,..until hardly any green can be seen with all the pink,..its a plant i have become attached to,..to think it came with a packet of Garden Scented Seeds =================================================================================== Lilium 'Dimension'. I have a customer looking for a mallow plant and I found seeds to order I just wonder if they will be anything like yours. that is beautiful.
Hi Carolyn,..the seeds you came across should produce the same results as mine,..blooms are approx 3 inches across,..supposed to be only 2.7 inches lol,..classed as a Wildflower in Mediterranean countries as it can be seen growing alongside roads,..seedlings look similar to Parsley at the early stages,..its a great plant to have for the mass of blooms,..the height as well,..mine are over 4Ft high though this is the second or third year.
I can confirm this, Mallow is a weed in my garden. They make beautiful pink flowers though and one can eat them.
Hi Odif,..does your Mallow grow as tall and dense in the wild as well,..oh i didn't know the blooms were edible,..must have a sample,..i do like eating the Nasturtium leaf and blooms,..taste like Horseradish . =================================================================================== Latest on the Mallow,..very much in bloom at present. Lilium 'Tiger Mix',..highly scented,..so much it wafts inside the house. Lots of Yellow spikes through the garden from Verbascum 'Dark Mullein'. Clematis 'Nora Barlow'.
The wild mallow does not grow as tall as yours. They grow to about 50 cms and spread wider than their height. The whole plant is edible including the roots. The flowers come in white or pink. Mullein also grows wild here.
