According to an article I read, the August 21st eclipse may have an effect on your pets. Dogs and cats may go into their "night routine," which for dogs is sleeping and for cats is for raising h*ll. If you have hoofed stock, the cattle may lay down and nap, and horses head for the barn. When the sun reappears, cattle will get up and resume grazing, and horses will ask you, "What is going on?" No one has said what effect the eclipse might have on ferrets, hamsters, and white mice. Since these are basically indoor pets, they may just shrug their shoulders and continue watching their favorite TV programs. I expect our five kittens to briefly nap, and then expect their evening feeding, although it is 2:30 in the afternoon. That does not relieve us from providing another evening feeding at 8 p.m. Cats have internal clocks, but those clocks can be reset to accommodate an extra meal.
I do know that chickens will all return to the hen house to roost, just get settled down...and then the sun comes out again and they are all cackling about the 'short' night!
Wizard sat in the front window watching Randy and I watching what little darkness we got move across the sun. We used a colander to view the shape of the sun on the driveway. Looked really eerie.
my cats were fine during the eclipse. they meowed for my attention like normal, and that was about it! I think people just wanted to make the eclipse bigger than it was but it was big, for americans! because it is the only solar eclipse to be seen at totality in the united states. That's about as far as that goes. In any case I got to see it with my own eyes *and a pair of those awesome shades* it was really freaking awesome!
First total eclipse in the USA in 99 years, and the cats didn't notice, nor did the cattle. However my husband and I were out in the orchard wearing our "awesome shades" and being amazed. Good news is that in April of 2024 we will be in the path of the next total eclipse. I'm keeping my glasses!
yeah same here we will be in the path of the total eclipse in my area as well. I'm excited. I can't wait for 7 years to go by!!!!
