I know a few months ago I shared with you about the 2-Redheaded woodpeckers we had coming to our suet feeder. We were waiting and watching to see if they had a family this summer. WOW-low and behold they brought 2 youngsters to the suet feeder 2 weeks ago. I was so thrilled when I saw them and ran for the camera. But by the time I got back to the window they were gone. But they two days ago--success-. I was able to get a photo of Mom or Dad showing one of the kids the ropes at the suet feeder. Now if they only survive the winter we are hoping to have more coming to our feeders next year.
That's great news,..i remember you posting about the two Woodpeckers feeding at your place,..now you got four due to your kindness,..keep your camera handy,..fingers crossed you now have a good Woodpecker line starting.
We have a family of Red Bellied Woodpeckers that visit daily. It's been fun to watch the babies learn to come snag goodies at the feeder. Also to watch their heads turn from gray to red as they mature. They all have specific places they fly to in my Crabapple tree above the feeder, where they hide the seeds or eat. I also love their squeaky call... I think they're thanking us. Unlike you Tooty, I do not have the camera skills to capture images. So you'll just have to take my word for it. LOL
Wow, I hadn't checked on this post for some time. Thank you all for the wonderful comments. Alas they are no longer around. I know that they do not migrate like other birds. But this family must like it a little warmer during the winter months. I wish I knew where they headed off to. Hopefully they all will be back next spring.
