Went away for a day and came back to this...were popping out when i left and now this! Is this too leggy (taken this morn) or should i start over....geez!!!
Tthey are up and yes reaaalllly leggy but I wouldn't give up on them. Get them some sunlight or LED's and a bit of air movement and I think they will be okay, but whatever you do don't try picking any of them up. They will snap right off, I think. Let them stand up on their own. Start more if you have the seeds just as back ups or start over. Whatever suits you.
Thanks Carolyn. They are under lights and they are trying to stand on their own. But I will sow backups just in case. I appreciate it!!!
that was kind. thank you Cm... I keep growing and with everything I learn I should help where I can. it wouldn't be kind to ignore those who need help. I appreciate it when I need it.
I think that Carolyn is spot on about the light...perhaps some heat wouldn't be bad either. I was looking at those leggy wonders and I was thinking if those white stems could be underground...like in a pot of well-draining growing medium they would do well and develop more roots for you. For instance when my seedlings show me some leg like this, I pot them on. Having said that; I realize that you are using a different system, so I don't know if potting them on is really an option for you. Anyhow another thing that you might take a look at is adding more heat as well. In my part of the world seedlings looking like yours mean that the seeds were planted too early in the season... and this means that now the seedlings that come up do not have enough heat (under the roots) and light. Inadequate soil/medium moisture can also be a factor.-- I'm not sure if that plays a role in your case. -- Its an old rule of thumb: Not enough heat, light and moisture = Leggy seedlings. The leggyness can be caused by any of the three factors or a combination. Check this out: https://themicrogardener.com/prevent-fix-leggy-seedlings/
I think it was the light. I had them on a heating pad and the moisture was crazy. I gave them more water yesterday and are starting to look much better...however, one of them are not standing on their own...so I will probably start that one over...oops..i better order more rockwool.
Update: 2/10/18 Looking better...some will be transferred to cups of soil tomorrow,..maybe not..waiting for that second set of leaves.
Looking very good Hummer. Good plan for tomorrow. Man, oh man---what a pleasure to read your postings.
2/24/18: Hi Everyone, just wanted to show the progress of the previously shown leggy tomatoes!!! I moved them into a double cup home and bottom feed them with hydroponic solution and some in a cocoa coir, earthworm castings and potting soil mixture. They have grown like crazy in a week. Trying different methods. They were all well below the rims last week..so much so, it was nerve-wrecking moving them without the fear of breaking them!!! I didn't think that they would make it..especially the Galinas!!! Patio Yellow & Early Girl are going nuts!!! Ok, the broccolini is taking it's place also!! None of the tomatoes were no where close to the rim last weekend..I promise!!! I'm shaking my head because this is unbelievable!! Some in soil, some in hydro!!! Oh the back left pic is 2 cilantro seedlings that finally popped up.
