Hi Cayuga Morning,..good question,..we sometimes refer to it as a 'night table',..a 'bedside locker',..would be a Hospital or Military name for this piece of furniture for certain,..'night table',..i imagine is a modern name for the same type of furniture located next to a bedside,..lol i suppose its like the changes in name for a 'Toilet' over the years,..'Ladies',..'Gents',..'Powder Room',..'Men's Room',... ==================================================================================== I gave up trying to work out the time of year my 'Amaryllis' blooms,..as they have bloomed during all Seasons including Winter which surprised me over here,..anyway i am looking forward to a good big bloom very soon,..as the bud is huge just now,..plus a second plant coming alongside the parent bulb. Time to divide my 'Clivia' as there are three growing in this pot,..i do have another in a smaller pot.
My Clivia didn't flower last year which was unusual. I'm hoping it will this year. I haven't had an Amaryllis for years but I think it's about time I got around to buying one this year.
Ah...what a big beautiful clivia plant! Warms the heart! I have given multiples of them away over the years. Friends still email me photos when they bloom! Brings a smile to my face. Eileen, I find my clivia seem to have a mind of their own re bloom time. Your amaryllis es look very healthy. Look at the size of that bud!
Eileen,..'Clivia' really do make a beautiful big houseplant with those dark green shiny leaves and very impressive blooms,..strange how yours missed out on 2017,..fingers crossed for 2018. Ah yes the 'Amaryllis',..keep a look out for them in 'LIDL' as they have a good selection each year for £5 each The most amount of blooms at one time was eight,..for the plant above but that was when it was in its prime,..as for the 'Clivia',..it must be heart warming indeed to see your bulb growing in another country
Amaryllis 'Royal Red',..in bloom at present,..some years ago when new this plant produced eight blooms at the same time,..sadly its reduced to just four now but they are 7 1/2 cm wide or in ye old system 7 inches. View attachment 12759
nice. mine is about to burst into bloom. it is huge. I will have to get a picture of it. it is just taking up room in the little greenhouse right now... I need to move it but I don't think I can by myself. it is HUGE! Aw! Doggone it! I just broke off the first flower ready to bloom. I went out to check things over and leaned against it as I was looking at the tomatoes on the bench.
Carolyn,..now that bloom looks a lot bigger than mine,..i am sorry for you that you bumped into it . ================================================================================= Pulmonaria officinalis 'Lungworth',..in bloom now,..i have two patches of this. Primula vulgaris 'Primrose',..and Primula veris 'Cowslip',..in bloom now. Hellebore 'Double Ellen Picotee'.
I'm still looking at a snow covered garden but I'm sure there's some life to be found underneath it. Bring on a thaw please as I'd love to see flowers like yours Philip.
Eileen its amazing how your weather and mine differ so much yet we are not all that far away,..not a sign of snow here now though we did have big hailstones which i feared might break the windows,..really big ,..we are 15 days into Spring and the garden sure looks like its ready to give a good show this year,..touch wood you get a thaw real soon.
I am very far behind with the videos,..due to the death of one dog and the taking upon myself an injured rescued dog,..still all is well and videos can always be put together.
Thanks Eileen,..i will keep uploading and updating,..i must admit its soul destroying to only see one Moderator checking in,..its all about continuity to keep a Forum running,..most of my friends looking in have noted the very reason why few members remain in the Stew,..most people post elsewhere but look in to say hi to friends,..we have not progressed much since 2010,.. to encourage Members to remain . Thankfully we have you Eileen,..you do a great job. =================================================================================== Its difficult taking pictures of Hellebore Blooms seeing the bloom faces down and not up to look into the camera,..even more so with the Hellebore 'Double Ellen Red,..below,..due to its dark colour. Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire',..in bloom.
