Did you know that carrots used to be purple not orange?

I remember, as a child (talking 60 yrs ago) when tomatoes used to have one of the most wonderful tastes in the world AND they were all lumpy, bumpy with character! Now they're just bland waxy exactly same sized red things

None of those plants look particularly appetizing to me Toni, thank goodness they've changed!
I do agree with Islandlife about tomatoes losing their taste. This is the reason I always grow heirloom tomatoes.

Your right, Netty, and thank goodness someone improved them. I raise and can my own heirlooms, but realize that a lot of people can not raise their own or the seasons are too cold for them so, in that case, a store bought tomato beats NO tomato! I was so excited last week as I found non GMO organic 'vine ripened' tomatoes at the store! As far as 'vine ripened' it was false advertising. Bright red, very firm, and no flavor! :(
