This is my new project. I took cuttings off of the parents (Minibels, Patio Container and Basil) that didn't look good and rooted them before moving to hydroton only (inside this time under grow lights) on June 3, 2018. Yes, that is the bottom of an onion. Can't get the pic to turn at the moment. Everything looks a little pitiful.

Oh boy that's really working for you isn't it? Just goes to show you don't have to have lots of space to grow plants. Can I ask a daft question? What's the reason for the onion? :headscratch:

Eileen...i just stuck it in there...actually, I really thought that I would have had more hydroton before it got to this point where it could grow a bulb. At this point, I'm growing it for the green leaves. Have you seen this before now? Just wanted to see where and how it would grow. Having fun!
Thanks Mart...as of today, most have blossomed and yes, the electric toothbrush was not far behind...

I've seen it done with carrots but never with onions before. Isn't gardening (whether on a large or small scale) really THE best hobby to have?

Hummer, I missed something. Just what are those little ball-like things?
    Is it a Growing medium?

Our onion harvest was good. The garlic also.
I set out a row of garlic after the original harvest.
It hasn't come up yet, but it has plenty of time.

Hi Growingpains...I thought I answered your question. It is hydroton and it is a growing medium.

Hummerbum, you may have answered my question and do not be surprised if in the future I ask again. o_O I would forget my head if it wasn't attached. So thank you for answering again.

Question: Is the Hydroton expensive and do you add water? I'm fascinated .

Growing pains....the hydrogen is not expensive at all. yes...water with nutrients. It's basically the same principle as hydroponics....just adding a grow medium.

Really nice tomato. The Basil is beautiful. I believe the great thing about growing as you do is being weed-free.

That is a great combination, Hummer. Sounds like you're sold on this type.

The pics tell the story. Well done you!
