Many (and I do mean many) years ago I was a volunteer fire fighter in the small town where I grew up. The department was a mix of paid and volunteers, and the chief ha d been a fire fighter for 25 years at that time. The fire chief always said the best way to fight a fire is to not let it get started. The paid fire fighters regularly inspected businesses, offered advice, and fined repeat offenders. One of the businesses was a fertilizer plant that was classified as "legal, not conforming". It had been built before the area was incorporated by the city. It met safety standards, but wouldn't have been allowed in that area if built after incorporation. It was inspected regularly, and part of the departments ongoing training focused on the possibility of a fire. Late one evening in 1975 (or so), the call came in, fire at the plant. The first truck arrived, pulled hoses and started in. The fire fighters started in and were just inside the door when the first barrel of fertilizer exploded. They were blown out backwards with their heels off the ground. It took 12 hours to bring the fire under control, but the fire they'd been fighting through inspections and training didn't take a life and there were only a few minor injuries. The only way to fight a fire is with prevention. If you refuse to prevent a fire, don't expect me to bail you out. The Governor of California vetoed the bill that would have prevented, or at least lessened the destruction.
HE'S HOME!!!! He's exhausted, but safe and sound, whew! The hill fire is almost contained. The Woosley Fire is 35-40% contained. They have begun releasing some strike teams which is how Corey got to come home. They have been getting more engines coming in from other states so LA County Fire doesn’t have to bear the brunt of all the staffing. They have rigs from Arizona, Nevada, Oregon. Etc. coming in now.

Oh thank goodness Ronni!! Just the news we've been waiting to hear. Mayra can now relax knowing Corey is home and safe. The news we want hear now is that all the fires get extinguished quickly so that the emergency services can stand down and everyone can return to their families too.
glad for you all ronni. this is a terrible situation to have to try to fight. I saw a story of one man who built his home and maintained his property all with the idea of saving his home when... not if but his words, when there was a fire. he had his own water source and a fire hose, sprinklers and kept the brush cleared around his property. he said you could have picked out the ones to have homes and the ones who would not before the fire even started.
Thank goodness for the selfless first responders that protect and keep us safe! You have a right to be both proud and petrified about him out west but just know that his bretheren will make sure all are safe, including your son. Let him know how proud you (and all of us) are of him. Sending the best mojo for those on the front lines!
Ronni, I'm so glad your son is back home safely. I can not imagine the worry that you and the rest of your family have been feeling.
