@Gail-Steman, Is it possible that when Cordylines are kept inside, they may not always have a fragrance?

I did not know that Yuccas were houseplants. My friend intensely dislikes Yuccas!

Hello @Petronius sorry i'm late replying :(...yes you can have them in the home, I payed £40 each for mine besides two nice pots..i put gravel in the bottom moved the plants in to bigger brown plant pots and then placed them on the gravel and I used to add water to the gravel twice weekly besides using a clean cloth and adding milk to milk the leaves over and they established a bit to big  but knowing now that I could have cut the stem down like the Cordyline I would have...sorry friend doesn't like them.

Found some buds on this C. fruticosa 'Red Sister' plant today. I've never detected any fragrance from this type (when the blooms are open.)

When this Dracaena fragrans (cultivar Riki / Rikki) bloomed, it was very fragrant.

This bloom has no fragrance, Cordyline fruticosa.

Thanks! I can't let the potted ones get more than a few feet tall because they have to come inside for winter, although the roots seem to be hardy everywhere I have left them in the ground over winter. From what I've seen so far, the surviving roots have time to grow stems that get about 2 feet tall between frosts, but none of those stems are forming any buds.

I can totally understand you taking them indoors being potted but give it time with your others some take longer than others...last years frost really hurt my Cordyline Redstar and then when the heat came that was it, they was peeling away and bone dry and that's when my hubby cut the stem to help the main new shoots and none of mine never flowered which I would have loved to have seen...the tallest was 6ft.

Two D. 'Riki' plants are forming inflorescences. This is one. It's a gray morning!

And this D. 'Massangeana' is also doing it! 2018-11-22 004.JPG
